"𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻", named after the Kazimierz Dąbrowski's theory of personal development, starts with a woman whispering, “𝑺𝒐 𝒑𝒖𝒓𝒆, 𝒔𝒐 𝒅𝒆𝒆𝒑, 𝒔𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍”. “𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐚” resets the flow with a darker twist but remains very manageable. The focus at this stage is on setting up for a powerful start for this long psychedelic set. “𝐅𝐥𝐮𝐢𝐝” swaps back to a positive rhythm and rapidly ramps up the intensity with overlapping jungle sounds until I break it back to a more manageable drum pattern with “𝐍𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧”.

The second cycle builds up from confusion to anger starting with “𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜”, now at 145bpm, the cruise speed for the next 25 minutes. “𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐠𝐚” was my morning commute track for many months, the intro always gets me, and it just keeps getting more intense. “𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫” converts the energy into a beautiful melodic flow with a touch of melancholy at 25:00. “𝐎𝐡𝐦 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐚 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐲𝐞” offers a short break with screeching sounds and opens seamlessly to “𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐳” which starts the truly tragic section of this set. The drop at 32:00 always comes with a level of anxiety but offers a remedy with an aggressive response. When it all seems to be too much already “𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝” resets with a dark melancholic flow into an epic finale.

Everything stops with “𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝟕𝟔”, letting go of anger, accepting the past and foreseeing the path to a free life. “𝐀𝐥𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞” expresses yet another desolating collapse as I struggled with solitude. The transition at 48:40 is the lowest point of the set: “𝑵𝒐𝒘 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕? 𝑫𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒔𝒖𝒈𝒈𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏?”. It’s all uphill from there.

“𝐄𝐱𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐬” represents my migration to Australia, the understanding nothing would ever be the same and the relief that came with it. A deep motivating flow into an ecstatic transition to “𝐃𝐣𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐦”, “𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡” and “𝐆𝐚𝐳𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐨”: 10 minutes of epic energizing tracks should leave you cleansed and ready for more.

“𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧” starts the 5th cycle, a relief from our noisy Spanish friends. It’s gonna get much harder. The initial hint of melancholy is brushed away by an electrifying flow, then comes the corruption with “𝐀𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐚”: the energy of doing too much, too quickly and feeling great about it. “𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏, 𝒎𝒚 𝒃𝒐𝒅𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒎𝒚 𝒃𝒐𝒅𝒚 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒚 𝒎𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒚𝒐𝒖…". Pure madness, a 10s reggae break, and even more filth to reach a peak at 1:21:00.

Getting out of HiTech is quite difficult but necessary. Full reset with “𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫” which has a surprising slap at 140bpm, reopens with playful sounds and gives back some control while keeping the energy high. Second corruption with “𝐁𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫”, confusing and overwhelming at first, until the slow down at 1:27:20. A long release which could have marked the end of the set. “𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐭” resets with a raw drive which only gets harder once “𝐀𝐥𝐠𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞” violently takes over.

I had to finish up with a few tracks from Guardian Record, I’ve done some research and apparently, it’s called Primal. “𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐥” sets the tone: introspection and clarity. Notice how the energy swaps from down to up at 1:40:00.  “𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞” is faster, pure and melodic. “𝐓𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐭” takes it to a higher level. These tracks get better the longer you listen to them, but I opted for an early finish with “𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞”.

BIOGRAPHY

Originating from Finland, the psytrance duo Tripteaser was established in 2002 by 1984-born Jonny Jansson and Tuukka Jääskeläinen. They had met two years before and had already begun cooperating as fellow producers, creating all styles of electronic music. They both had a history in making music with tracker programs on the computer and even visual art. While Jonny only has former experience in computer music, Tuukka has played different instruments and was a keyboardist in a metal band. They also have a downtempo sideproject called Solarians, which has already released on Com.pact Records (Israel). By the end of 2002 the guys had their first actual live performance in Austria which they did with trackers on two computers, jamming fully live.

While the main focus of Tripteaser is in full-on, they dare to break the boundaries of familiar styles with a subtle touch of scandinavian quirkyness and their open sense of musical exploration.

Ever since the beginning they have not concentrated merely on a single style such as morning or night trance but have dynamically expressed their inspiration in both melodic and non-melodic, the yin and the yang, music for the day and night for listening both in the car and home stereo and dancing in the woods and dancefloors! Since their first performance they have mastered a unique method of live performing which enables them to completely blow their tracks apart only to build them back up again, ground up in a unique structure that is different every time, completely live before the audience.

So far they've had releases on Shiva Space Technology, Synergetic Recs. and Moonstone Recs., performed live at parties in Finland, Norway and Austria, including events such as Batusim psy camp, electronic music festival Koneisto and Konemetsä with popular performers such as Lemurians, Logic Bomb, Silicon Sound, Raja Ram and Infected Mushroom and remixed and co-produced Lemurians and Serotonot/Poliisi (FI)
