This year I'm kicking off a new mix series to celebrate the first 25 years of this century: 21st Century Music! Each mix will contain only music from this century. To kick things off, here's a mix of proper techno music from the beginning of the century. This is very personal for me, as this is a point at which I was really engaged with techno - listening to it, dancing to it, thinking about it, and playing it. This is the point when I was a student at Edinburgh University, and I was visiting the (sadly no longer with us) Studio 24 on Calton Road practically every weekend with friends to enjoy techno clubs like Dogma, Pillbox, Apex, Subtle Logic, and more. 

This was a time when techno was really fun and interesting, the time of 'hard grooves', of funky techno, of high impact, danceable music, before the walls of minimal closed in and techno got really, really boring for a while. There's been a revival of this style in recent years (see my Stranger tribute mix, for instance), which is not surprising, because this style of techno is just so much more fun than minimal.

Jeden Abend setzen sich Millionen Menschen vor die Glotze. Frustriert ,über das was da läuft. greifen sie zur Flasche um zu vergessen was sie dort gesehen haben. Um diesen Teufelskreis zu durchbrechen habe ich ein  altes Hobby von mir wiederbelebt. Geboren in Münster, aufgewachsen in Greven mit seiner Mutter und zwei Geschwistern – zwischen Kleinstadtleben, dunklen Gassen der Straße und dem inneren Hunger nach mehr. MAXIMAL48 hat sich alles selbst beigebracht, getrieben von Emotionen, Niederschlägen und dem festen Willen, sich aus der Dunkelheit herauszukämpfen.

Er bekam das entschlossene Gefühl, die Ereignisse, die ihm im Leben widerfuhren, in Texte zu verpacken.
Schon früh entdeckte er Rap als Ventil, fand damit einen Weg, Schmerz, Gedanken und Hoffnung zu verarbeiten. Sein Sound ist geprägt von emotionalen und selbstreflektierenden Texten über Vergangenes – zwischen hartem, kampflustigem Rap und den Narben dessen, was er erlebt hat.

Beflügelt von seinem ältesten Bruder, begleitet ihn der Sport noch bis heute: Disziplin, Fokus und Ausdauer prägen nicht nur sein Training. 
In der Natur findet er seinen Ausgleich – Eigenschaften, die ihn im Gym, im Leben und in seiner Musik gleichermaßen antreiben.
