In deze aflevering van De Kunstkast van Pygmalion praat Jaap Versteegh met de socioloog Paul Schnabel. 
Hij was van 1986 tot 2018 universiteitshoogleraar aan de Universiteit Utrecht en van 2015 tot 2019 namens D66 lid van de Eerste Kamer.  
Paul Schnabel heeft meerdere boeken op zijn naam staan, maar er is één speciaal boek waarover wordt gesproken en dat is 'Anders gekeken' Het beste en het boeiendste uit de Hollandse schilderkunst van de Gouden Eeuw', dat verschenen is in 2021. 
Dit boek laat zien hoe de smaak zich gedurende vier eeuwen heeft ontwikkeld, welke veranderingen daarin zijn opgetreden en welke opvattingen en omstandigheden daaraan ten grondslag lagen.
De muziek is van Mussorgski, Liszt en Chopin, allen gespeeld door Alexander Kashpurin

22. De socioloog Paul Schnabel

In deze aflevering praat Jaap Versteegh met de kunsthistorica Manon van der Mullen met wie hij samen de tentoonstelling Zwart op Wit maakte. Deze tentoonstelling die van 5 oktober t/m 12 januari 2025 te zien is in het Dordrechts Museum heeft als onderwerp de grafiek rond 1900, in het bijzonder de Nederlandsche Etsclub (1885-1896), waar veel grote kunstenaars uit binnen- en buitenland bij betrokken waren.

Daniël Majoor, also the producer behind the Alio Forte project,  has been involved with electronic music since childhood. 

Daniël doesn't see himself as a musician, but rather as someone who "paints" with sound. Just as a painter mixes his colours, Daniel continually experiments with new sounds until he has found the right atmosphere. His music is in no way generated or composed by AI. Daniël does use certain AI "tools" for mastering and vocals. But for him the human factor is never allowed to take a back seat to technology.

In ‘De Kunstkast van Pygmalion’ liggen allerlei verhalen over de liefde voor de kunst verborgen. 
In deze podcastserie bespreekt de kunsthistoricus en kunsthandelaar Jaap Versteegh de meest uiteenlopende aspecten van de kunstwereld met ter zake kundige experts. 
Zelf was Versteegh o.m. werkzaam als kunstrecensent, docent kunstgeschiedenis en gastconservator voor diverse musea. Zijn gasten in ‘De Kunstkast’ variëren van kunstenaars, museumdirecteuren en veilingmeesters tot aan lijstenmakers, restauratoren en verzamelaars: allemaal spelen zij een eigen rol in deze enerverende wereld. Dat leidt tot boeiende en persoonlijke gesprekken over de waarde van kunst, het doen van kunsthistorisch onderzoek, maar bovenal over de liefde voor de kunst. 
De gesprekken worden omlijst door pianomuziek, o.a. Pictures at an exhibition, uitgevoerd door Alexander Kashpurin.

This threshold space exists for those who feel like listening to some of my quite professional poetry embedded in rather amateurishly recorded but judiciously arranged sound, a modicum of purely acoustic work notwithstanding. SOUND, SPACE AND TIME

Tend your listening senses gently. Even though my general approach welcomes and embraces lo-fi concepts like the precision of spontaneously occuring imprecisions, headphones worth their membranes are recommended - unless you like your sounds flat, mangled, battered and helpless. You don't, do you? Be kind to these soundscapes.

STRUCTURING IMPULSE

Due to the nature of "poetry soundscapes", your listening expectations regarding traditionally structured "songs", sonically purified "raw wildlife soundscapes", keyboard-laden "ambient recordings" or voice-centered "readings" might not be met. You will find some of those in my list of /likes/. "Noise" is a recurring structural element like any other. This is what this sounds like - within its own rights, limitations, tangents and interconnections. Sonic structures. Silent stretches. Poetry emerges from the gaps between the ruts, seeps in from the undergrowth, sweeps down.

Above, there is a tiny poem of mine that I do not understand how to translate into sound. If you do - please act on it. This is just a small gift, not a challenge - life already has more than enough of those on offer, doesn't it? Treat it this way.
