Depuis le 1er janvier, la Pologne occupe la présidence tournante du Conseil de L’Union européenne. L’occasion pour Nourrir L’Europe de s’intéresser à son agriculture.

Car le monde rural polonais a connu de profondes mutations depuis l’adhésion du pays à l’UE il y a 21 ans. Sous l’effet des aides et des standards de la politique agricole commune, la taille moyenne des exploitations agricoles a augmenté, les agriculteurs se sont spécialisés et leurs productions ont conquis les étals du marché commun. Résultat : en 2023, la Pologne était le cinquième plus gros contributeur au secteur agricole européen, derrière la France, l’Allemagne, l’Italie et l’Espagne.

Dans le 53ème épisode du podcast dédié à l’agriculture, au monde rural et à l’alimentation, Jacek Zarzecki éleveur de bovins et expert auprès de la Commission européenne, nous parle de son secteur, de ses forces mais aussi de ses fragilités et de ses inquiétudes. Since January 1st, Poland has held the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union. So, this is an opportunity for Food for Europe to focus on the Polish agricultural sector.

Polish farming has undergone profound changes since the country joined the EU 21 years ago. Under the EU's Common Agricultural Policy, the average size of farms has increased, farmers are specializing more, and their products have conquered the shelves of the common market. As a result, in 2023, Poland was the fifth largest contributor to the European agricultural sector, behind France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

In the 53rd episode of the podcast dedicated to agriculture, farming and food, Jacek Zarzecki, a cattle breeder and expert with the European Commission, talks to us about his sector, its strengths, but also its weaknesses and industry concerns. Magdalena Nowicka, Deputy Director of the Direct Payments Department at the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, discusses measures to cut red tape implemented by her teams. 57 is the average age a European farmer. This figure is all the more alarming, according to specialists in the sector, because it keeps rising. If nothing changes, this means that in 10 years' time, more than half the farmers in the European Union will have retired. Ensuring the next generation of farmers is now a priority, and the raison d'être of the Youth Policy Dialogue launched in December - a series of meetings between the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen, and representatives of young farmers and rural communities.

The 55th episode of Food for Europe looks back at the issues discussed at the second session of this dialogue, held in Brussels on 7 May, and at the conference on the Vision for European Agriculture and Food held the following day.

You will meet two young women farmers with contrasting views: Justine Poppe, who works on her parents' dairy farm, and Anne Van Leeuwen, an art historian who has turned to regenerative agriculture. Martin Siemen, a shipbuilding engineer and vice-president of the NGO Rural Youth Europe, talks about the importance of opening up the countryside to stem the rural exodus and make life easier for farmers. Finally, Commissioner Hansen takes stock of his discussions with young people on access to land and finance, and suggests possible solutions.

57 ans, c’est l’âge moyen des agriculteurs en Europe. Un chiffre d’autant plus alarmant selon les spécialistes du secteur qu’il ne cesse d’augmenter. Si rien ne change, cela signifie que dans 10 ans, plus de la moitié des agriculteurs de l’Union européenne seront partis à la retraite. DJ name is pronounced "Pac" as in Pac Man but there's a billion DJ's named Pac Mac, so I had to be arty farty and unique and come up with this., even though Mixcloud wouldn't let me use it as a username LOL.
I basically like anything with a decent bass line and break beat but sort of have ADHD when it comes to music and don't really like to pigeon myself into one genre, so I listen and like all sorts of music and genres.
I mainly just make blends/mash-ups/edits/mixes/etc. for my friends, don't claim to be any good, just do it as a hobby plus my scratching is trash these days so I'd rather not embarrass myself but I might try and practice and do a few turnablism mixes in the near future if peeps want to hear that sort of thing?
I also do custom mixes, $5 for every 30 mins, anything in between can be negotiated at a mutual price.
