If you hear an invitation to believe the gospel, then it's not too late to turn to Jesus for salvation. That's what Peter explained in Acts 2:14-41 at Pentecost. Jesus isn't spiteful toward sinners, not the rebellious, the stubborn, the proud, even his own killers. If you have turned your life, marriage, career, or parenting to ashes, it's still not too late to turn to Jesus. Peter's listeners killed Jesus, but he arose and offered them eternal life if they would repent and follow him. Jesus fulfilled Scripture, left his tomb empty, and changed the lives of those who believe in him. Hearts may be granite, but the gospel of Jesus Christ is diamond. It's time to follow him!

On this special Pentecost Sunday, we reflect on the incredible blessings God has poured out on this church family—from humble beginnings in an apartment gathering to this beautiful new space. But today’s message asks a crucial question: “Whose accomplishment is it?”

Pastor shares a powerful personal story about his dad running an ultra-marathon—a reminder of the hard-earned sense of accomplishment we feel after doing something difficult. But in moments of visible success, we’re warned to be on guard against the subtle temptation of pride. The truth is: every victory, every step forward, every act of faith—we owe it all to God.

🔥 Pentecost reminds us that it is the Holy Spirit—not our clever strategies or personal efforts—who builds the Church, who strengthens faith, and who works through Word and Sacrament just as God promised.

"The love that is the Holy Spirit is the change-agent in our lives. In fact, that love, the Holy Spirit, is also the change-agent in God. Now, some people think that God never changes. But that is not entirely correct. God existed before creation. But the love that is the Holy Spirit could not be contained within God," Father Bill tells us for our celebration of Father Perry's retirement. "God had to change. God had to create. He had to share that love. And so he began a process of evolution that has resulted in the magnificent and vast expanse of the universe around us. He breathed his Spirit into the primordial waters, and the ancient oceans began to teem with life. Wherever there is loving change, we find the Holy Spirit."

Pentecost: Clarity over Confusion

It's Pentecost Sunday - the day we celebrate the arrival of the Spirit.  Like we talked about last week, Christian means "follower of Christ." We can also understand it as meaning "little Christ." We're all little Jesuses. This happens with the indwelling of the Spirit. The Spirit is nothing more than Jesus moving from the outside to the inside. It's Jesus moving in.

So here we'll walk a bit through the story in Acts 2. How do we know that Jesus has moved in?

1) There will be a renewed sense of community. They were all together in one place. The Spirit arrived to the gathered community. They had everything in common. We'll talk for a bit about the importance of the gathered community. With all of our online options today, the gathered community has never been more important.
2) There will be a renewed sense and passion for loving the world - our neighbors.  There was such a diversity of people present at the first Pentecost. They were there meeting the practical needs of people.

When Jesus promises the Spirit of God he is promising to draw his followers into the transforming relationship what Jesus shares with the Creator. AND he is drawing them into that relationship with all of the uniqueness and wholeness of who they are. We do not have to choose between belonging and transforming. With the Spirit we have both.
