In 1959, while recording birdsong in the countryside with a reel-to-reel tape recorder, Jürgenson claimed to hear inexplicable voices on playback. One of the voices reportedly called his name and spoke in a manner that suggested it was not from a living person.

He initially dismissed this as interference but soon became convinced these voices were messages from the dead or other dimensions.

The "Jürgenson Frequency" is not an established scientific term or concept but is sometimes referred to in paranormal circles as a supposed specific range of radio frequencies or sound wavelengths where Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) are more likely to occur. This idea is loosely attributed to Friedrich Jürgenson, based on his experiments with EVP and his claims of receiving voices from the dead via tape recorders and radio static.

Most recently, Jeff is the author of The Superhumanities: Historical Precedents, Moral Objections, New Realities (Chicago 2022), where he intuits an emerging order of knowledge that can engage in robust moral criticism but also affirm the superhuman or nonhuman dimensions of our histories and futures; and How to Think Impossibly: About Souls, UFOs, Time, Belief, and Everything Else (Chicago 2024), which thinks---with experiencers of the extreme--toward a future form of theory that does not separate the mental and the material.
