A Disco nasceu no Dia dos Namorados 1970, quando pela primeira vez, David Mancuso organizou a primeira de uma série de festas que ficaram conhecidas como LOFT. David Mancuso e Dj Francis Grasso estabeleceram uma cultura sonora e social contagiante, no famoso BOCA A BOCA, com a mídia mal sabendo de sua existência, permanecendo uma Cena Underground.
Os clubes The Gallery, The Paradise Garage, e a Festa Loft de David Mancuso, foram os mais importantes da cena Disco Underground.
Em 1977, as coisas começaram a mudar, quando Steve Rubell e Ian Schager abriram a Studio 54, como um ponto de encontro de celebridades. A partir desse momento, a cultura da Disco de Nova York começaram a circular nas mídias globais, e logo depois, com lançamentos do Filme Brooklyn Disco, Saturday Night Fever.

"Chasing Ghosts" is a heartfelt song about self-worth and recognizing love (moreso someone avoiding it). It’s about someone seeking approval and affection, but the other person is "too busy," "needs space," "makes excuses," or "leaves you on read" (your text messages). If that person is seemingly always unavailable, disinterested, or ghosting, then "stop fooling myself" and "stop chasing ghosts." The song searches for someone who really wants you and will even "run through fire to be with you."

On May 30, Native Harrow will release their new all-acoustic duo album, Like Never Before: Duo Acoustic Volume One. This project contains 11 new acoustic versions of fan favorite tracks from their catalog, and one previously unreleased track. The first single from the album, "If I Could" is available everywhere today (March 28) and reimagines the song, which appeared in its original version on their 2020 album Closeness, as a "contemplative plea for mindful consumption and environmental action." (KLOF Magazine) and "an authentic call to action" (The Line of Best Fit).

“'If I Could' is a song that hangs on my own personal desire to shake people into realizing we only have one earth, one chance to keep it healthy and green and cool,” says vocalist and guitarist Devin Tuel. “And we’re blowing it.”

"'If I Could' is my plea to look around," says Tuel. "Listen better, care more, respect what you can’t understand, plant a tree, recycle... The list of simple actions we as a whole have left behind as humans. It’s time to change or it will be too late. We have to get off of the hamster wheel we are trapped on and try harder to live truer more active lives."

All of the tracks on this album were performed live as a duo, with Devin Tuel on vocal and acoustic guitar, and Stephen Harms alternating between acoustic, open-tuned, nylon string, and baritone acoustic guitars. The tracks were recorded over several sessions in their home studio, before being mixed and mastered by Joshua Friedman at Hi5 Studios in Philadelphia. Like Never Before: Duo Acoustic Volume One will be available everywhere on May 30 through Different Time Records.

A highly respected vocalist on the Washington, DC scene, Ron Queen was considered something of a "secret weapon,” often recruited by established bands who were searching for that special voice to make their live shows pop. His first exposure to a large audience came at the age of nine when his mother thrust him on stage with the one and only James Brown, the Godfather of Soul. From then on in, Ron knew he was destined to be a performer. By the time Queen was a teenager he was singing in about 15 different bands in the DC area. The first well-known act he sang with was the popular Motown group known as the Dynamic Superiors, who scored a huge hit with the romantic sweet soul ballad "Shoe Shoe Shine." It was then that Ron's reputation as a "singer's singer" began to grow beyond the confines of the local scene. After performing for a few years on the Dynamic Superiors live shows, Queen was approached by Major Harris, who recruited him to sing in his band and he toured with Harris for nearly three years, further establishing his reputation. Because of his exceptional talent, he rarely found himself with any down time. Over the past few years, at the behest of the legendary Philly Soul producer Butch Ingram, Ron has been releasing string of singles on the Society Hill Records label. Presented here is Ron's superb rendition of The Temptations 1967 hit, "You're My Everything" - featuring one of two distinct mixes recorded for the project and expert backing from the formidable Ingram Brothers band aided by the master keyboardist Charles (Clef) Lundy and the superb guitarist Gary Nelson. Local vocal group favorites TRU provide exquisite backing vocals that further compliments Queen’s soulful lead. This release is Ron’s third with Butch at the helm, following 2023's "Hurry Up This Way Again," and Queen's exquisite recording of "La La (Means I Love You)" from 2024. One of the truly golden voices to emerge from the modern Soul music scene, Ron Queen remains above the pack and continues to impress with each successive release.

It is my little homage to those Philly soul tracks of the 80s.

“Divided Kind” (September 13 via Different Time Records) opens with the title track; frontwoman Devin Tuel’s honey-toned vocal accompanied by gospel-tinged piano, deftly broadening to an exuberant celebration of liberation, abetted by a chorus of soaring voices, electric, acoustic, and 12-string guitars, stentorian Hammond B3 organ, communal handclaps and tambourines, and galvanizing bass and drums. That these first four minutes, a veritable wall-of-sound, were performed and recorded completely by the two members of Native Harrow (the aforementioned Devin Tuel and multi-instrumentalist Stephen Harms), augmented solely by a drum kit performance from longtime collaborator Alex Hall (Pokey LaFarge, JD McPherson, The Cactus Blossoms), is perhaps as perfect an introduction as any to their world.
 
Philly-based Native Harrow have remained largely independent - musically, professionally, and aesthetically, since their beginning, meticulously crafting and perfecting a sound and style that is melded together from pieces of folk, soul, and rock n’ roll. This music is distinctly American (but not Americana…). Or maybe Pan-American. This is the lifetime’s work of two scholars of music whose individual backgrounds in the arts have forged a strict artistic discipline that exists in sharp contrast to the more traditionally laissez-faire world of rock and popular music. The duo’s songs and albums have thus far completely refused categorization. Either they’ve never been pigeonholed, or if so, they’ve remained completely ignorant to it. Over a catalog of six albums, Native Harrow have produced a discography of “rich, engrossing records” and “instant classics” while single-mindedly following their own artistic code, acquiescing only to the exigence of the song: each song its own world with its own rules.
 
Formed a decade ago, Native Harrow spent their first five or six years crisscrossing the United States and Canada on numerous tours, averaging more than 150 concerts per year in 47 states and 4 provinces, on the back of two self-released albums, Ghost (2015) and Sorores (2017). In 2019, they released Happier Now, partnering with London alt-country stalwarts Loose Records. The record garnered glowing reviews, with Rough Trade selecting it for its album of the month, writing “Beautifully soaring... rolling grooves ground languid and dreamy clearwater shimmers of sound.” The critical acclaim and Americana chart success of the album prompted three back-to-back UK tours in 2019 and early 2020, ultimately leading to a three-year stint living and touring in the UK and Europe. In this time, Native Harrow released two more critically acclaimed records with Loose; Closeness (2020) and Old Kind of Magic (2022), playing for audiences ranging from rock clubs in Norway and Sweden to opera halls in Portugal, and every stop in-between, as well as performing at festivals such as BST Hyde Park (supporting the Eagles and Robert Plant & Alison Kraus), Greenman Festival, Black Deer Festival, The Great Escape, Celtic Connections, Moseley Folk Festival, SXSW, and many more.
 
Whereas Native Harrow’s previous records have grown increasingly more expansive, both stylistically and in terms of the musical forces applied, “Divided Kind” counters this categorical unfurling with a lateral move towards the ground, with both feet firmly planted, in a folk-soul-rock sound that still explores their love of RnB, jazz, country, and farther-flung inspirations while simultaneously digging in, with more authority, to the musical world they have constructed. Or maybe they’re still searching, and “Divided Kind” is what’s next. Their refusal to be put in a box, and their relentless insistence on catering to the demands of each individual song suggests the latter is likely the truth at hand.
 
Following the eruption of its title track, Side A of “Divided Kind” transitions nimbly through hazy tremolo-laden dusty canyons, past an intimate soulful love letter, and towards a moody anthem of devotion buoyed by propulsive grooves, before ultimately settling on a gentle bird’s-eye-view of love and transcendence. Side B opens with the debut single, “Goin’ Nowhere” a soul transmission over incendiary bass and undulating layers of guiro, congas, tambourines, shakers, and handclaps that sidesteps into moments of infinite dial-toned burnished, Rhodes-propelled soul-jazz and self-assured blues rock à gogo before ending in a spectral folk reading on celestial meditation.
 
“Divided Kind” was produced and recorded by the pair, in their home studio surrounded by the vintage acoustic and electric guitars, dusty semi-functional amplifiers, and out-of-date Rhodes, B3, piano, and assorted percussion they’ve grown accustomed to. Chicago-based Alex Hall was again drafted to add drums and to mix, and Philadelphia drummer and engineer Joshua Friedman mastered the record. London-based musician Joe Harvey-Whyte added the pedal steel to “Borrowing Time”, with all other voices and instruments being performed by Tuel and Harms. “Divided Kind” is available everywhere September 13 on Different Time Records.

I was born in the late 60's, but only in the late 70's I got to absorb the disco era. I was a listener, but always with a keen sense. It was where everything began, a passion for eletronic music.

In the 80's, these most intensely lived, and for me one of the best. I absorbed a generation of true musicians, which adds even more knowledge and feeling.

Nowadays, with all knowledge that I have gotten, I look intensely all the songs of the past. I really miss those times and I do not deny. After all, having this feeling is a spiritual universe, where we bring with us in our lives, everything good that we got. It is our story on a journey throughout time, going back, reviving às if it were the first time, remembering, inventing everything again making the "now" become Alive as in the pas, becoming a source of life.

Music is a cycle that goes back and forth. As I mentioned, I miss those times, but I did not stop in time, I enjoy the pasta and the present. I think I do define myself as an only style. I always say I like music and with the keen sense I have, I listen to the songs and if I believe they sound good to my ears, that's what I will believe. House is the base. However, in my sets there might be a tech house, a techno, or rather any Söns that may please my ears.

Nowadays, I live intensely researching everything from the past until the current days.

Nasci no final de 60's, logo, fui absorver a era DISCO já no final de 70's, era ouvinte, mas sempre com um feeling aguçado. Foi onde tudo começou a paixão pela Música Eletrônica.

Nos anos 80's, esses mais vividos intensamente, e para eu um dos melhores, absorvi uma geração de verdadeiros musicistas, o que veio acrescentar ainda mais o conhecimento e o feeling.

Hoje, com todo conhecimento que absorvi, busco intensamente todas as músicas do passado, sou sim, verdadeiro SAUDOSO, e não me nego ser saudoso, afinal a saudade é um universo espiritual, onde trazemos conosco em nossas vidas tudo de bom que absorvemos, é a nossa história em uma viagem pelo tempo, indo atraz, revivendo como se fosse a primeira vez, lembrando, recordando, podendo inventar tudo novamente, fazendo com que, o agora, torne vivo como no passado, tonando-me fonte de vida.

A música é um ciclo, vai e volta. Como falei acima, sou saudoso, porém, não parei no tempo, curto o passado e o presente. Acho que não me defino por um estilo somente, gosto sempre de falar que gosto de música, e com o feeling aguçado que tenho, ouço as músicas, e se eu acreditar, soar bem aos meus ouvidos, é o que acreditarei. A House é a base, entretanto, em meus sets, pode ter um Tech House um Techno....ou melhor qualquer música que agradar aos meus ouvidos.

Hoje, vivo intensamente pesquisando, desde tudo do passado, até os dias atuais.
