This piece of audio is the first in a series of sonifications generated from a photograph taken by my father, George Bowdidge, of some bluebells in Wanstead Park in 2019.

The initial audio files which form the piece were generated from his photograph using Photosounder, and then processed and arranged in Audacity.

The pulsing tremolo effect fragments the original sound files in a manner analogous to the pixels which form the original image, while the use of rotary effects and reverberation are intended to create a sense of physical space and change over time, and allude to the constant shifts of light, wind and temperature which shape the environment in which these flowers bloom every year.

Much like the flowers themselves, the piece blooms slowly, rages briefly against the dying of the light, and then fades away, only to return again in the spring.
