While I fully transcribed everything you hear 100% from scratch, I wound up referencing Soapgaramond's Big Wave Beach Zombotany recreation for a piano part that was particularly tricky to pick out, so I'd be remiss if I didn't give it a shoutout. You can find it over on their Musescore page!

In hindsight, my timing for conceptualizing this arrangement was hilariously perfect. Cause I *high-key* forgot it was AHIT's 7th anniversary in early October until the announcement ping in Hatcord. Seeing as this both aims to improve on something from AHIT's past AND celebrate what I love so much about both AHIT and PvZ2 + Whisperjas' Zombotany, it wound up being a far better fit for the (now late) anniversary than I ever would have thought before.
Anyhow, this was a ton of fun to work on!! Took about a month of work, 14 WIP renders and a 198MB Mixcraft file with 35 instrument tracks and 2 audio tracks. Figuring out the base transcription, while also doing my own things to make it feel kinda new-ish, was rly satisfying. Similarly to my approach with the "Level Intro" jingle cover I did a few years ago, I wound up taking inspiration from elements in a LOT of the different Zombotany variants -- namely Ancient Egypt, Lost City and (indirectly) Steam Ages. Also... As much as it's become my mortal enemy in song form as of late, I decided to work in the motif from Eric Gleiser's "Time Trials" track in a way that hopefully DOESN'T suck at 1:35-1:39.
Figuring out the best combination of instruments was EASILY up there for being the biggest challenge I faced with this track. It's extremely difficult to represent *all* of A Hat In Time itself in one Zombotany cover, but what I wound up doing was taking a couple consistent techniques that Pascal used in the AHIT OST (layering strings/xylophone/woodwind, and obviously a theremin) and made *heavy* use of that throughout in different ways.
My arrangement doesn't have ALL of the actual PvZ2 instruments, but I was so determined to bring this to life, I dropped about $100 on Xpand!2 to get a couple of the most important ones for the backing. Aside from this, it's an absolute clusterfuck. Kontakt *and* SF2 versions of the Proteus 2, flexatone samples I had to create an account on a platform that I'll likely never use again just to download, the M&L Partners In Time soundfont **SPECIFICALLY for the clock sounds in the drumkit.** I could go on all day about how fuckin goofy my choices were on the whole... and I wouldn't have it any other way, this all came together so wonderfully.
