In this Film Ireland podcast, Gemma Creagh talks to Ross Whitaker about his latest documentary, Beat The Lotto.


When downtrodden 1980s Ireland inaugurated a National Lottery the people began to dream.  For Cork-based mathematician Stefan Klincewicz, it was an obsession.  Spotting a flaw in the system, he recruited a ragtag team of chancers, and masterminded an audacious plan to fix the draw the win the millions.  The heist became public knowledge, and in a race against time, the lottery did everything they could to try and stop the steal, dividing the nation on a very public caper.

Ross is producer/director of the feature documentaries Beat the Lotto (2025), Katie (2018), Between Land and Sea (2016), Unbreakable (2014) and Saviours (2007). His recent work includes the TV documentaries Birdson (2024) for RTE and (acquired by) BBC, Peter the Great (2023) for NBC, Rachael Blackmore: A Grand Year (2021) for ITV/RTE, Barney Curley Beat the Bookies (2021) for BBC/RTE and The Boys In Green (2020) for RTE. His short docs include the award-winning Bye Bye Now (2009) and Home Turf (2011) and the documentary commercial SLEEPING Flags (2019), which won prestigious D&AD and Cannes Lions Awards. He is a former festival director of IFI DocFest and editor of Film Ireland magazine.

In this podcast Gemma Creagh talks to Gar O’Rourke, Director of Sanatorium, which screens at this year’s festival. And introducing Fleadh programmer Holly Buckley, who casts an eye over the programme.

On the outskirts of Odesa, stands Kuyalnyk Sanatorium. Each summer, thousands of Ukrainians come here, drawn by Soviet-era therapies and the chance to relax beside the salt lake. The biggest attraction though, is the mysterious black mud, said to cure infertility, physical disabilities and other ailments.

Sanatorium takes us through a summer season at this place, following the staff as they work hard to provide care, comfort, and entertainment for visitors – even with the war nearby. For the guests, it’s a time to seek healing, love and renewal. Despite the airstrikes close by, there’s something about the pastel pink and lime green halls of the sanatorium that keeps pulling people back.

Sanatorium screens on 11th July at 15:30 at the Town Hall Theatre as part of Galway Film Fleadh 2025.

Martyn Päsch continues to rise in the Global Scene of Electronic Music.

In his work as a producer, we can find a wide range of styles varying from Deep Techno, Experimental and Ambient.

In the beginning of 2018, he started his own record label called KVLTÖ RECORDS, focused on Deep Techno, Ambient, Experimental, Hypnotic and Techno sounds.

His world of music is being built in an increasingly distinct style, perhaps as a fixed part of deep techno. Abundance of synth melody with harmony charm. The kick that leads the power and the percussion that supports it. And ironically, the sudden appearance and disappearance of the break makes his music more self established.

Tina von Kugler, Italian Berlin-based DJ, has been immersed in the techno scene since her move to the German capital in 2016. Co- founding the collective Klub Ostkreuz (KOX) in 2017 and running a radio show at THF Radio since 2020, Tina has been instrumental in shaping
Berlin's underground culture by organizing parties, (legal & illegal) raves, and art events.
Despite being a relatively fresh face behind the decks, she's already made waves across Europe and South America, delivering fast, groovy, and bouncy techno infused with percussion-driven rhythms and hints of ghetto-funk, acid, and electro which add an extra layer of energy and
excitement to her mixes. Tina’s journey as a DJ is closely connected to her love for travel and
adventure. Everything started with a big solo trip to Colombia, where she fully developed her DJ skills and got deeply inspired by the local underground scene. Since then, she’s continued to combine her two main passions - music and traveling - by performing in different countries around the world. In just a few years, she’s brought her sound to Perú, India, Italy, Portugal, and the Czech Republic, and has already completed two successful tours in Colombia. Even though she’s based in Berlin, she’s often on the road, exploring new places and connecting with different music communities. In November 2024, she launched a new radio show on New York’s Halfmoon
Radio, featuring gender-diverse artists met during her travels. Tina offers versatile and captivating sets inspired by her travels and the communities she encounters. As her journey continues to unfold and she is now starting to produce her first beats, one thing is clear: her passion for music knows no bounds or borders.

Yaknow is a hungarian underground techno dj. In 2021, he started practicing to be ready to share his vibe through the music with the people. In 2023, he got invited to HYPNo's crew and won a talent show organized by TKWT, and the next year got the chance to play on Tilos Radio. Now his style is mostly based on proper, hypnotic and groovy techno. His goal is to spread the values of techno culture, live unforgettable events with the crowd by the music and to develop his skills as a dj.

Darkness and Light are both of one nature, different only in seeming, for each arose from the source of all.


Welcome to Mute, where music becomes a journey toward deep introspection. In the world of Dark, Deep, Hypnotic and experimental ambient sounds we find a space where each sound invites us to become more aware and receptive, allowing each frequency to resonate within us.
