04 - tiempo

Let's just get this out of the way.  Yes, I know that Lana Del Rey used, pretty much, the same sample from the same source on her song "13 Beaches"--but I didn't know that until after I'd made the track, which was around the time of last year's "Spooky Week".  As we said in the comedy industry--parallel development, not plagiarism.  

This track certainly feels like it would be right at home for this coming year's Spooky Week--not quite so apt for mid-January...but with tomorrow being Inauguration Day for the second Presidential Term for OrangeManBad--perhaps something spooky is what fits the moment best.  (And, there's no guarantee any of us will still be here by the time this coming year's Spooky Week--best to send this out in the world now.  

The 1962 movie Carnival of Souls is a low budget cult hit--with some genuinely scary scenes and an off-kilter mentality that doesn't lend itself to ever feeling quite comfortable.  It is an underrated movie that did not do very big business at the time, that, despite being 63 years old can still make the hairs on your neck stand up.  It is unnerving.

In the sample used in this track, is when The New Church Organist, Mary Henry--who has been seeing visions and feeling like she cannot connect with the locals here in the town she just moved to, after a fatal car accident that took the lives of two of her friends, is comforted by a Doctor after having a panic episode in public.  While the Doctor admits that he is not a psychiatric doctor, he does agree to listen to Mary...and see if he can offer any suggestions as to how to escape her haunting visions and reduce the panic in her life.  

Mary is trying to describe how she feels to the Doctor--and it sounds harrowing.  Thus, I made the music as harrowing and downright terrifying as I could--thus befitting the vibe of the scene the sample comes from.   

Coming in at the tempo of a dirge, this track is full of loud drums, thick chorus-laden bass...and spooky processed keys that slide from one side of the stereo spectrum to the other.  Drench the vocal sample in a twisted reverb to bring, almost, a theremin feel to the track.  It is more about the atmosphere being generated and reinforced by the processed guitars and the creepy words being spoken.  

Nothing good is happening here.  But, perhaps that's a vibe you might get into while listening to this.  

Perhaps something less terrifying for tomorrow's track?  I think that can be managed.  
Just don't for get to listen, like, and all the other stuff!
