Silent Bridges

"Subterranean Tendencies" is a thrilling and intense electronic auditory pathway dedicated to those who have a tendency to journey through the depths of the underground. The visuals depict an overlook of Cincinnati as well as a "zoomout" to the entire planet featuring algorithmically generated weather systems that are affected by incoming audio streams. Ryo Kawasaki – New Dawn For A New Ocean

Written and composed by John Cage

To honor the spirit of John Cage's silent masterpiece, and in opposition to the training of copyrighted works on AI without permission from the authors or any compensation, and in opposition to the unregulated advancement and usage of artificial intelligence technologies - including generative AI - which I feel is a dress rehearsal for an AI-powered totalitarian surveillance state that will lead humanity to total extinction, I made this cover 4'33" using Audacity. The recording consists of 4 minutes and 33.5 seconds of total silence rendered at 24-bit 192 kHz resolution in WAV format (the quality may be different on streaming services like Soundcloud). I gave it the new title of 'Artificially Unintelligent' as a brutal take-that towards all of the AI companies and big tech firms, some of whom I name dropped in the simplistic cover art. Try training on this piece of silence, AI companies, and see where that gets ya.

Preface

I’ve conjured a vision of the grotesque,                                                                    
of morbid fascination with violence, 
and the aestheticization of war.

Indulge in hallucinations from the bourgeois cosmos,
of bazaars and mosques gripped by faith and mistrust,
of desert movements encumbered by tradition and hashish.
Around the fulcrum of 9/11 revolve the paranoid projections of agency.

The second act must be swallowed as a savage pill.
(Concentrate on ferocity.) Here is resentment,
self-harm, and reconnaissance as rhythm and sound.

Finally an endless dismal wail
collecting all the old shit.
Does anything happen?
Meditate in dread. 
Regret and transformation is
the mystic desire to repeat the 21st century. 

At the limits of exhaustion comes apocalyptic redemption,
a coda to wake the dead and enlist them anew.

I am classically trained percussionist who is mainly a performer and educator. I often find myself composing chamber music as well as recording little stock media tunes in my spare time! I love mixing both electronic and acoustic elements into one genre, in the classical realm we call this "electroacoustic" and in the popular realm this is just normal every day stuff - bridging these two things in creative ways is what I find joy in. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania in 2012 and a Master of Music from Western Michigan University in 2015. Walasavage’s music is particularly noted for its rich textural qualities that explore various elements of motion and form. His compositions have been described as creating sonic textures that can suspend in time, transform into cacophony, breakdown to silence, or express movement and fluidity.
