We took some acid. It was probably 2-CB really. And we recalled this particular redneck from school. I remembered he always wore the same fucking pantera shirt with the snake and fire, and I realized this imagery is pretty much everywhere in that subculture, either snake, fire or whatever. Clearly, this simple set of rules guides these folk as to how to determine which art is acceptable to consume and will prevent suspicion they might be having the sorts of thoughts what would be the death of their social status. So we wrote a 16+ minute song about it.

“Rising Above” is a haunting yet empowering anthem about breaking free from cycles of pain, fear, and despair. Through imagery of tangled webs, watchful eyes, and suffocating loops, the song captures the weight of being trapped in shadows, and the courage it takes to fight back.

At its heart, the song is about resilience. It begins in darkness, where haunting thoughts and conditions feel inescapable, but gradually shifts toward strength: a refusal to be drowned, a rising spirit determined to reclaim light.

With raw emotion and poetic depth, “Rising Above” speaks to anyone who has ever felt caught in endless struggle, reminding them that even in the face of fear and haunting cycles, there is power in standing tall and choosing to rise.

Rising Above

The artistic process of songwriting, do you write the lyrics first, or do you write the music. These questions often plague new musicians who find themselves unable to medium for the universe. It is the overthinking that keeps them from greatness. As I've seen repeated again and again in my own artistic process. To spend too much time on a work of art is to make it worse. To put too much thought into the creation of art is to decrease it's quality. This project was an exploration into all of the extremes of this with it's realization finally in some of the best works having been given the least amount of thought. The creation of music and art truly is best when the artist makes themself a medium for the voice of the universe.
