Looking to build a small HTPC, I suppose mini-ATX is the smallest form factor. I was initially just going to get a mini PC on Amazon, maybe an Atom cpu or a Celeron, but I think I'm much too picky and any slowdown would annoy me. I've built plenty of full size ATX PC's before, I just never delved into the world of HTPC's.


Changing the target LLDV nits is useful to match the display to the tone mapping in the LLDV algorithm. I have HD Fury on an OLED where target nits are 800, whereas on projectors, I use 100. With MadVR, it seems to work well set to 1,000.


The size of your theater room greatly influences the projector and screen you choose. Most projectors, including our recommendations, come with a chart to help you determine throw distance (the distance required between the screen and the front of the lens), and you should confirm what your room can accommodate before you buy any gear.


The LS11000 is also a great 4K gaming projector. It produces low input lag and is one of only a few 120-hertz projectors that have high-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 inputs to work with the most advanced 4K gaming consoles and any future 8K sources that might emerge. The only thing missing is support for 3D video.


We tested a number of projectors around $1,000 or less and found that the BenQ HT2060 had the best picture quality and the easiest setup. Though you have a lot of budget 1080p projectors to choose from, the HT2060 boasts the best combination of black level, brightness, and color accuracy, so it produces a great-looking big-screen movie image. It has a long-lasting LED light source and supports 3D playback and the input of a 4K HDR video signal.


You should also look into a mini PC with Windows 11. They have various types such as Windows, Mac Operating System and Linux. But among those, Windows is strongly recommended especially for home theater usage. Windows 11 enabled the easy handling of tasks through the Task View feature.


This feature works best for working with multiple or larger screens which are connected to your mini PC. This operating system also 
supports a 4k display
, remarkably one of the best resolutions a device can offer.





Mini PCs also have mounting kits on their backs that allow you to fuse them easily to other monitors or a projector. This feature is what makes a mini PC convenient for a home theater. The mounting kits allow you to connect the mini PC directly to the TV or projector, reducing the struggle of multiple installations.


The Apple Mac Mini PC has an 8-core CPU and GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, 8GB memory which is expandable up to 16GB, 256GB storage configurable up to 2TB, can display up to 6k resolution, HDMI 2.0 that can support multiple channel audio outputs, two USB-A ports, Ethernet port, and a built-in speaker. This mini PC costs $699-$899, compared to Windows mini PC, It is a bit costly., but its advanced features ensure a great theater experience.
