This mix came out pretty cohesive, unlike the previous editions where I tried to fit it all in...which does make more sense given they're mixes of records acquired over the year. Anyway, I liked the minimal nature of how it came out so I left it as it was. I did pickup this banger by LCD Soundsystem, "Tribulations", but there really was nowhere to put it.

My fav pickup of the year is the Valentino Mora LP on Spazio Disponibile, which includes the opening track of this mix. Amazing record which seemingly flew under the radar of all these end-of-year lists and reviews.

2025 saw a shift in my vinyl habit, in that I spent a lot less time in record stores and a lot more time getting to grips with modular synthesisers. Let's see what 2026 has in store.

DJ Boris is kind of a charismatic, multifunctional weapon in the Berlin club life. His musical roots reach back to the mid 80s, when he lived in New York for four years where he absorbed the unique spirit of the seminal club Paradise Garage weekend after weekend. From the Club’s mentor Larry Levan Boris learned to believe in his musical intuition as well as a broad musical spectrum, which nowadays ranges from Disco, Hi-NRG, Post-Punk and (Kraut-) Rock to House and Neotrance, all of which Boris loves to throw into one set. „Music was most important for Levan. He was uncompromising and he knew how to convey it. That’s what I’m trying to achieve, too, when I’m djing.“

Many years later, Boris became a resident at Panorama Bar’s first incarnation in Berlin, where he was able to build a loyal following by playing long sets lasting until noon. „The crowd is always a lot more receptive for music at the end than at the beginning. That’s when I rather have the opportunity to present unusual stuff and that’s when I’m able to let my feelings run freely.“

After the old OstGut/Panorama Bar closed, Boris played in almost every club in Berlin, but when the follow up club Berghain opened its doors in 2004, he quickly focused on playing out here again. Since 2005 he has got another musical platform, as he is taking care of the label Careless Records as an A&R. Both as a dj and as an A&R, he is not exactly keen on refining a certain genre, but rather to push music with a certain twist.

Achim Brandenburg aka Prosumer lives in Berlin, he is an expert in classic Chicago House and Detroit Techno. He gained this expertise first as a fervent record buyer at Saarbrücken’s Hard Wax branch, where he later started working behind the counter. It was the heyday of labels like Prescription and Relief, the time for soulful house music, which still can be heard in Prosumer’s sets today.

„My heart is beating for the early Chicago-Detroit-Techno and for music that feels similar and transports this feeling into today. Generally, I like producers who cordially follow their feeling and who work on a personal style which rather caters for longeivity, than a momentary kick. To know one’s trade isn’t a disadvantage at all.“
Slowly, the consumer turned into Prosumer, who by the way is a character in Alvin Toffler’s visionary sci fi novel „3rd Wave“, in which the term „Techno“ has allegedly been used for the first time ever. Prosumer is not only djing, but producing as well. His debut is released on Swayzak’s 240 Volt label in 2004. A year later he released „The Craze“ on Playhouse, which turned into a veritable hit record, followed by remixes for e.g. DJ T. and collaborations with Murat Tepeli or Sebo K, for who Prosumer contributed his charismatic vocals.
„Whatever I do has got to be real. If a record doesn’t move me emotionally or physically, I won’t play it out. I have to feel the music and I’m always trying to share my feelings with the crowd on the floor. If everything goes down well, there’s an exchange going on. I try to keep a balance between pushing people’s buttons and surprising them. It’s all about having a good time together. I’m sharing my inner emotions. And dance music has got to be horny!�

2011-03-27 - Boris + Prosumer Live @ Honeysoundsystem San Francisco

A prosumer is a hybrid role that merges the terms "producer" and "consumer." Originally coined by futurist Alvin Toffler in 1980, the term refers to individuals or entities who actively participate in creating, customizing, or generating the goods, services, or media they use, rather than being passive end-users. 

Since Achim Brandenburg heartily grabbed the microphone under this moniker in 2005 for Frankfurt’s then undisputed Label Playhouse, he showed that lasciviousness, a fever for Chicago’s Jack flavour and consciousness of tradition aren’t necessarily bound to a time and a place. Vision, passion and knowledge make Prosumer a guardian of house music history and one of the formative artists, influential DJs and important producers of our time. 

While deriving his name from Alvin Toffler’s techno sci-fi-bible The Third Wave (producing and consuming at the same time), Prosumer lives up to his name. With more than a decade of Hard-Wax-Record-Store-enculturation on the clock (first in Saarbrucken, then Berlin), he spent countless nights in clubs, days looking for music and years refining his art and becoming in line with the “big three”. 

This is not a reference to Detroit’s car companies, but the city’s musical heritage that – together with the Big Apple and the Windy city – laid the foundation for techno and house builds with the Big Apple and the Windy City. 

Prosumer oscillates between these poles. That holds true for his productions, which are affected by references and historical vertexes, but never feel to be out of time or place. 

An album with Murat Tepeli and collaborations with Tama Sumo expand his discography for labels like the aforementioned Playhouse, Running Back or Swayzak’s 240 Volts. 

On the other hand – and that might be far more important – this is exemplary for his DJ work since the mid-nineties. Prosumer connects the tracks and songs of this music’s golden age with the worthwhile pieces and developments of today. 

Accordingly to that special feeling which is so hard to couch, he gets engaged in it from tip to toe – and so does his audience. Proved by his mission as one of the residents in Berlin’s influential club institution, on his official mix CD for that place that describes his spectrum of sound perfectly and by this certain magic that travels with and in him everywhere.
