Located at just a fraction of the European Route E25, called the Rijksweg 20 or A20. This motorway is supported by several overpasses through The Netherlands, of which one of them in the Rotterdam-The Hague metropolitan area forms the base of this piece.

While the fast pace of humanity is causing hot asphalt and infrasound to move through the concrete, underneath the overpass a slower pace is causing more innocent reflections. Captured impulse responses from these reflections create a somewhat terrifying and slowly building-up reverb scape. Dynamic impacts from the A20’s bouncing surface, caused by the passing vehicles, result in irregular rhythmic echo’s to scatter beneath the construction.

All these never-ending sound waves are occasionally dominated by several other sound sources. Car horns translate the human’s frustration from within, while they try to balance it out with amplified FM frequencies. However, this more pleasing part of the electromagnetic spectrum gets interfered often with higher frequencies from passing metros and trains. These signals being pitched-down, form the cold and resonant chords through the piece. 

The massive amounts of weight rolling over the railway next to the overpass,  result in ground-shaking infrasound all over the area. Rumbling frequencies vibrate schematically through the concrete pillars. Moments later, fireworks suddenly feed the already existing sonic-tangle, followed by emergency signals that appear no less distinctive without its optical parts.

The recordings are made near the Brandersbrug in Schiedam, The Netherlands on March 30th 2023. All sounds are recorded with two unidirectional condenser microphones in X/Y setup, a geophone, contact microphone and electromagnetic receiver.

Belgrade is set to introduce free public transport for all residents starting 1 January, Mayor Aleksandar Sapic announced. The initiative aims to reduce road congestion in the city of 1.7 million, where traffic jams are a daily struggle. Over the past decade, an additional 250,000 cars have clogged Belgrade’s streets, leaving many residents stuck in hours-long commutes.

While free public transport has worked in smaller or wealthier places like Luxembourg or Tallinn, Belgrade faces unique challenges. The city’s ageing bus fleet and limited tram network are already under strain, and the metro system—currently under construction—won’t be operational until 2030 due to repeated delays. Mayor Sapic has promised to modernize the city’s buses, trams, and trolleybuses by 2027, but these upgrades will come with significant costs.

Belgrade’s bold move could transform its public transport system, but it remains to be seen whether the infrastructure can handle the anticipated surge in passengers.

New York City has launched the first congestion charge scheme in the U.S., targeting traffic south of Central Park. Drivers entering the zone during peak hours face fees up to $9 (£7) per day, with higher rates for larger vehicles like trucks and buses. Off-peak charges start at $2.25. The zone covers landmarks such as the Empire State Building, Times Square, and Wall Street. The initiative aims to ease traffic congestion and fund billions for public transportation improvements.

The plan has sparked controversy, with critics like former President Donald Trump calling it a "cash grab." Local Republicans and suburban representatives also oppose the scheme, but it has already taken effect. Proponents argue it’s essential: Manhattan’s downtown was recently named the world’s most congested urban zone, with peak morning speeds averaging just 11 mph (17 km/h).

Will this reduce traffic or simply generate revenue? Only time will tell. Still, it’s a bold step toward addressing air quality and gridlock in a city known for both. Whether or not it solves the problem entirely, it’s a start—and one that reflects growing global interest in sustainable urban solutions.

First Group’s operating profits reached £204.3m in 2024, and shareholder dividends increased by 45 percent. These profits, created by milking drivers and passengers alike, weren’t invested in new buses or better wages. It is not their inability to think logically but their dedication to profit-generation that leads our rulers to destroy public services. Outsourcing is always expensive and often dangerous for passengers and taxpayers. It is certainly miserable and impoverishing for workers. Logic would seem to be in favour of overturning it. Yet inefficient and costly as it is, outsourcing remains an extremely ‘efficient’ method for extracting profit and maximising shareholder dividends – especially when the state is forced to underwrite the operations of private corporations delivering vital services, stepping in to pick up the tab when all possible wealth has been extracted and the vultures have moved on to easier pickings.

The ruling class is working overtime to pit worker against worker. We must not allow it to succeed in its aim of neutralising our resistance. 
Hyperbolic statements about the ‘threats’ posed by migrants and asylum seekers, alongside blanket media coverage given to theatrical acts of deportation, are being used to stoke social tensions, distract workers from the real cause of their problems, justify militarisation of the police, and encourage scapegoating. All of which keeps migrant workers disciplined and fearful, while simultaneously fuelling the narrative amongst the rest of the working class that migration is responsible for all the social and economic problems they face.

Climate Stories Project (CSP) is an educational and artistic forum for sharing personal stories about the effects of climate change on our lives and communities. CSP focuses on personal oral histories, which bring an immediacy to the sometimes abstract nature of climate change communication. Some of us may recount dramatic events such as floods and wildfires, or we may address our observations of changes in seasonal patterns and our fears for the future of our families and communities. We may discuss how climate change is forcing our communities to adapt to extreme weather and sea level rise. Or we may speak about how we are getting involved in the movement to fight the fossil fuel industry through community organizing or nonviolent protest.There is no "right" way to talk about climate change, as it is a vast topic that is increasingly touching every corner of our lives. CSP also facilitates educational workshops where students learn to speak about their own responses to climate change and interview guest speakers about theirs. In addition, some climate stories are featured in music and soundscape projects that allow audiences to witness the effects of climate change in a novel way.
