Happy 2025!  Well, I called myself doing something special, like, unearthing my favorite tunes from the 80s and 90s that to me are the progenitors of house music - the songs that gave me understanding about "how house was built."  As my story goes, the first time I heard house music and techno I fell in LOVE, because I understood its elements.  I could hear pieces of music I'd grown to love so it made sense to me.  I wanted this show to sort of push the reset button like a fresh start to redefine my own inspiration.  I'm deciding what I'll do next creatively.  I need fresh things, you know?

Absolutely delighted to be invited to spin for Gang of Four before the opening gig of their Long Goodbye Tour this past Good Friday at Westport’s estimable Public Library. This mix is a rare old concoction – partly following the brief (“classic reggae, no punk standards”), partly taking a trip down memory lane to being 15 years old in Bristol in 1980 (dusting off some 7”s that haven’t seen the light of day for ages), and partly paying tribute to ace bassist David Allen with some funky edits of seminal tracks from the post punk era. Somewhere in there is a thread between British guitar bands and dubby dance music.  If you got really high at a student union disco full of precocious music heads in the early 80s, it might have sounded something like this.
