The Quasars hit back with the powerfully twisted EP "Majestic Drunken Flights". The 2 fast and furious tracks feature an ether-infused Twilight Goa sound, combined with a liberal sprinkling of the exotic and a sneaky dash of the old-school.

The ensuing 3-dimensional sonic tale evokes liberation through the ability to fly, both literally and metaphorically. The human psyche is capable of soaring through time and space using imagination alone - but as sand requires the wind to dance, our minds sometimes need a little assistance to soar to higher dimensions. With a grotesque yet graceful twist, The Quasars' evocative and ethereal trance will do just that!

The rhythm, it's like the thrumming of a spaceship, punctuated by the boom and crash of quasars, the universe itself throwing down the beat.

It's a song of contradictions, of unseen fates and false devotions. Each note, each beat, feels like an echo from a dark chasm, resonating with something deep and elemental within you. The music breathes life into the void, filling it with sounds that are at once fragile and powerful. And somewhere in the middle of this cosmic ballet, you find yourself dancing, lost and found in the labyrinth of life.

Taches Cosmiques

Dr. Rebecca Davies is an Astro3D postdoctoral researcher and has just been awarded an ARC-DECRA fellowship at the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. 

Rebecca researches the stuff that flows out of Galaxies AKA ‘Galactic Outflows’ … and she looks across the majority of the history of the universe from right now and right back through time to less than a billion years after the Big Bang. 

Rebecca uses spectroscopic data from Hubble, JWST … the Awesome James Webb Space Telescope and the VLT, the Very Large Telescope which consists of a optical array of four 8.2 m telescopes high up in the Atacama desert in Chile.

From these data, Rebecca is creating new understandings of how Galaxies evolve, filling in some of those gaps in our knowledge, and her Honours and PhD students are in multiple research groups on related quests to understand galactic evolution. 

Now, when not doing Astrophysics. Rebecca can most likely be found bike riding or playing violin … and she's currently a violinist with the brilliant Zelman Memorial Symphony Orchestra in Melbourne.

Like a celestial beacon, distant quasars make the brightest light in the universe. They emit more light than our entire Milky Way galaxy. The light comes from matter ripped apart as it is swallowed by a supermassive black hole. Quasar light reveals clues about the large-scale structure of the universe as it shines through enormous clouds of neutral hydrogen gas formed shortly after the Big Bang on the scale of 20 million light years across or more. 

Using quasar light data, the National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded Frontera supercomputer at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) helped astronomers develop PRIYA, the largest suite of hydrodynamic simulations yet made for simulating large-scale structure in the universe.

On the podcast to talk about PRIYA is one of the developers, Simeon Bird, an assistant professor in astronomy at the University of California, Riverside.
