ABOUT SARAH LOUISE BUTLER:
Sarah Louise Butler is a novelist based in the West Kootenay region of the BC Interior. With a background in physical geography and environmental studies, her stories seek to portray natural landscapes and their non-human inhabitants as characters in their own right. Her debut novel, The Wild Heavens, was a 49th Shelf Book of the Year, and a favourite of book clubs and libraries across the country, including being chosen as a Vancouver Public Library Top 20 Favourite Books of 2020. It was recently translated and released in France. Her second novel, Rufous and Calliope, is a “geographical fiction” that features runaway children, treehouse hideaways, early-onset dementia and the persistence of hope amidst ecological grief. Butler was named a CBC Writer to Watch in 2020.

Grab my things, child - we’re hitting the road. And by hitting the road I mean, we’re going places. You + Me = Going Places, kid! The places we’re going, you ask? Nowhere good. No, that’s literally what it’s called, “Nowhere Good, PA.” Cause everyone knows only creepy shit happens in Pennsylvania (it’s where this is recorded, after all). On today’s episode we see the end of some controversial narratives and welcome some more new ones; What more need be said. It’s a real “out of the frying pan, into the fire” kinda story. And by that I mean, “out of the holocaust camp in Treblenka and into the casual racist bigotry of California.” One of those things is definitely worse than the other but that doesn’t make the other one “good” by any stretch of imagination. And what a stretch this episode is! We’re seeing the PAST, PRESENT, and FUTURE all in one go and it’s all so very… confusing? Kind of? I mean, it is, but I’m writing this in hindsight and it’s not as confusing now! (Yay) Well. The good thing is, this officially marks the halfway point of the series. Will we get answers? Yes. Just… not anytime soon. Listen up, now, Mother’s calling and she HATES to repeat herself.

Don’t make me turn this car around, kids… we’ve still got some ways to go. Where are we going? I’m not quite sure, yet. We’ll figure out when we get there, and I promise the answer is DEFINITELY not ‘the friends we made along the way.’ If that were the case, we’d be kinda screwed, right? Lest we ignore the literal Nazis, the Neo-Nazis, Black Jesus, Drug Addicts, Uncle Adolf, and maniacs we’ve met along the way… And today, we see the culmination of several more narratives. What of The Watchers and the Old Crone? What of Ben (that I appropriately call BRAD for more than half of the episode before realizing his name is actually BEN) and what of Karen? Important conversations are had. Trust is made and broken, sometimes even in the same sentence! And, last but not least, we have WhereAmI? Reading more graphic sexual acts. This is what you’re here for, after all. No need to hide from it. Embrace it, child - you’ve come this far. There’s no going back now. The story is told. The words are heard. The door is open. Be it Q or be it Mother, something is waiting on the other side.

ABOUT JULIAN BRAVE NOISECAT:
Julian Brave Noisecat is a writer, Academy Award-nominated filmmaker, champion powwow dancer, and student of Salish art and history. His writing has appeared in dozens of publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The New Yorker. NoiseCat has been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2022 American Mosaic Journalism Prize and many National Native Media Awards. He was a finalist for the Livingston Award and multiple Canadian National Magazine Awards and was named to the TIME100 Next list in 2021. His first documentary, Sugarcane, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary. Directed alongside Emily Kassie, Sugarcane premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, where NoiseCat and Kassie won the Directing Award for U.S. Documentary. With a career rooted at the intersection of musical artistry and technical precision, I have spent decades navigating the professional audio landscape as a Producer, Recording/Mixing/Mastering Engineer, and Educator.  Musically I am currently working on composing ambient/chill music for my wife’s yoga and meditation practice. 

On the engineer/production side my studio experience includes collaborative roles with a variety of industry notable talents.  Assisting as a Second Engineer (E2) for Emmy-nominated orchestrator Peter T. Myers under Emmy/Oscar winning Producer/Composer Bill Conti.  I have also worked alongside Grammy-nominated engineer Glenn Suravech on projects for Jesse Acuna and the acclaimed Taiko Project. 

 As an Avid Certified Instructor for Pro Tools, my commitment to the next generation of creators is at the heart of my work. I have shared my expertise at several prestigious institutions, including The University of La Verne, California Poly Technical University- Pomona, along with Cypress College, Riverside City College, and  The School of Audio Engineering Institute (SAE). Today, I serve as a full-time faculty member at the Los Angeles Recording School. Where I find my most rewarding work in the classroom helping rising young talents like Emma-Laure Zietek, Flying Lotus, Andrew Faust, LuisG, and Soba Ndife find their unique sonic voice.  

Additionally I remain deeply embedded in the industry as a member of the Audio Engineers Society (AES), National Association of Music Murchandiser's (NAMM), and the Producers & Engineers Wing of the Recording Academy (The Grammy's). 

Outside the studio when I'm not teaching, writing, or mixing music I enjoy time at home with our pets or hiking the mountains and beaches of Southern California with my wife.
