My dear listeners

I tried to shape a musical space around resistance, tenderness and ecstasy.
I deeply feel that these are some of the most important qualities to overcome fascist movements, to endure climate crisis and to stay affectionate in a world that’s driven by numbness.

resistance
I want to especially shed a light on the musical traditions I played which arose from Latinx and Black oppression and resistance movements: Baile Funk, Hip-Hop, Reggae, House, Bass - just to name a few. A focus on rhythm and electronically produced and/or amplified bass unifies these genres.
Let us learn from these musical traditions. Let us also not forget: those traditions in their resistant parts arose from being affected by racism, poverty, discrimination and oppression. 
Let us try to embody their messages and not just copy the style. Let us be inspired by this 
music created in resistance.

tenderness
I love to start and end my sets with more tender and lyrical tunes. For me this lays the ground for a feeling of safety and being held (like two gracious arms in time dimension - one at the start and one at the end) without which expression and real ecstasy cannot really happen for me. Especially the lyrical part at the end I love to stretch - because that’s the stage when body and mind are jarred from the ecstatic and chaotic middle section and deep feelings can emerge easier. And I think it’s very important to give space to deep feelings like grief, shame or guilt to be more present and empathic in everyday life. Kill em with softness!

ecstasy
I love to play remixes of songs I was listening and dancing to in my youth when going out (around 2005-2015). The difference is that in these nowadays mostly sober and queer spaces most people can really feel safe and enjoy the Pop without having to fear harassment or inappropriate behavior. Gamechanger!! Because the Pop often is actually really really good music omg!!
And of course it’s important to me to also invite the „go crazy!“ part of ecstasy. And to really let go of thought and judgement and therefore letting the body and soul speak their wild and untamed poetry: intense, chaotic, angry and cathartic. To connect with our inner ROAR which is so deeply needed to reconnect with our resistant inner voice.

I was ecstatic to get the call-up from Runway Rhythm to help soundtrack the section featuring local Te-Whanganui-A-Tara based clothing label FORMULA 7. Designed by Jake Puklowski, the garments capture visions of a cold and gritty technological future, and echo cries of escapism from the mundane human form. Already familiar with the brand, I went into Ableton for the first time ever and got started on something I hoped would capture the essence of this aesthetic.

I've been writing songs on and off for about 50 years now, both serious/not serious and irreverent.  I'm using Soundcloud mainly to post up demos of new songs although one or two are "the finished article"  - six solo CDs a so far and one ("Aspects of Lurve") in the making and a couple of collaborations with Steve Cartwright ("Legends of Leicester/Leicestershire"). No drugs involved in the writing of any of the lyrics.
