Part 30: Invitation from Jesus

 
Jesus and John the Baptist were second cousins. John started his ministry earlier than Jesus and was well-known when the God-man came to be baptized. Then he was arrested by Herod Antipas. Eventually he sent two disciples to find out if Jesus really was the Messiah. The God-man recited the great miracles being done, but made no attempt to rescue His cousin. It is difficult to know the mindset of God. John was beheaded for speaking the truth. The apostle James was killed as well. Peter, Paul, and Silas were jailed but set free. What can we conclude? God is sovereign in His actions. He chooses to let some die while saving others. We aren’t told the reasoning. Jesus went so far as to curse the cities of Galilee that witnessed His miracles and refused to repent. He issued an open invitation to anyone that wanted to be blessed, promising rest and a light burden for those who willing to take up His yoke.

Two thousand years ago, the renegade teaching of the Kabbalah was not mainstream for the Jewish people. It was a religion for the upper-class which consisted of the High Priest, his council, and the Pharisees. This is why Jesus only fleetingly dealt with the subject when He encountered Kabbalists in the crowds that followed Him. He called them vipers because of their messianic serpent and went so far as to label their synagogues as strongholds for Satan. Pastor John also addressed how the spirit world governs the physical world in which we reside. Jesus stated that every word is recorded, and you will be judged not only by your actions, but also by your words. The Holy Spirit hears everything on earth. Any words spoken in faith will be noticed by God. Conversely, negative words will attract the attention of Lucifer and his minions. Are you speaking words of faith or are you full of doubt and unbelief?

The scribes and Pharisees came to Jesus asking for a supernatural sign to prove He was the Messiah. Jesus retorted that the only sign they would get was that of the prophet Jonah. The Son of God came from heaven to inhabit a human body provided by the Holy Spirit and Mary. He was God and man at the same time. There was no spiritual death that occurred on the cross, in fact, Jesus visited Paradise and preached to the inhabitants of hell. Then He re-entered the resurrected body and walked victoriously out of the tomb. Jesus condemned the generation that saw the miracles and rejected Him. He taught about demons and the harm of returning to a sinful lifestyle. Then His family and friends tried to recall Him when they thought that He had mentally lost it. Even His own mom was among this group! Jesus refused to speak with them since He knew the God-man was going to redeem humanity.

THE STRUGGLE BETWEEN JESUS & LUCIFER

What is the view of the spirit world concerning events on earth? We know the angels existed before humanity. They observed the rebellion of Lucifer, the space war, the refurbishment of the earth, and the creation of mankind to prove God’s righteousness. If Lucifer had never rebelled, the human race would never have been created. But it did happen, and Adam sinned, so here we are. The struggle between the Godhead and Lucifer has seen victory and defeat for both sides. Angels have a hard time grasping the human mentality concerning eternity. Why does mankind fail to comprehend that their time on earth is fleeting and eternity waits after death? Why would a man – ostensibly made in the image of God – choose to live in the moment and throw away his life because there is no eternal perspective? The final outcome for the unsaved is a second death in the Lake of Fire. Why would anyone willingly embrace such a future?

Jesus was a master storyteller, utilizing everyday items to convey messages about the Kingdom of God. He likened the Kingdom of Heaven to a mustard seed and said that a tiny amount of faith is all it takes for believers to do supernatural works. It is not the size of your faith, but your sincerity in believing that all things are possible that makes things happen with the Lord. The God-man also spoke about yeast and what occurs when it is mixed with a lump of dough. Leaven is like sin and can spread quickly. But Jesus also pointed out that the Kingdom of Heaven would spread to the whole world and used the illustration of leaven to reinforce the power of the Gospel in relation to yeast permeating a batch of dough. The Son of God spoke in parables because the majority of the people hardened their hearts toward His message, rejected Him as the Messiah, and were not open to the treasures of heaven.

Jesus said that having riches will not necessarily lead to happiness. He delivered two parables in which salvation was at the heart of the matter and the value it has for the man with discernment. People declare there is no life after death, but the Bible says the opposite. Jesus had already introduced the concept of being born again and He built upon John the Baptist’s preaching of repentance. The Son of God wanted to make sure His disciples understood that it is impossible to understand the doctrine of the New Testament without the Old Testament. The knowledge of sin comes from the Mosaic Law and this is where the Gospel begins. The redemptive work offered by the Son of God brings us freedom from sin, but the issue of salvation must be settled while you are still alive. Jesus returned to Nazareth and was rejected by His neighbors, who refused to entertain the idea that He was the long-awaited Messiah. There is life after death and they made the wrong choice.

After feeding the five thousand, Jesus told the disciples to return to the other side of Galilee. The God-man stayed behind to pray. When He was finished, the disciples were beyond calling distance, so Jesus simply walked across the water to meet up with the group. The disciples were genuinely frightened when they saw the God-man walking calmly on the turbulent water caused by the howling storm. Peter impulsively jumped out of the boat but his faith began to falter as he realized walking on water was not natural. It is clear that Jesus was operating on a different plane of existence, exercising supernatural control over the environment. Everyone can walk on ice, but it is an entirely different matter to walk on liquid! The God-man emphasized the fact that He had no power in Himself and was completely dependent upon the Holy Spirit to perform miracles. Are you relying upon the Holy Spirit?

We are a Bible centered group of believers who desire to grow in the full knowledge of Jesus Christ without compromise to His Word. We believe, teach and practice all things that Jesus taught and were practiced by the Church in the book of the Acts of the Apostles. 

Jesus called his disciples to be salt and light. Salt is a preservative but it is also something that adds savor and enjoyment to our daily food. Light is a symbol of truth; it is comforting, penetrating, guiding and exposes darkness. We seek to preserve biblical truth and shed the glorious light of the Gospel in a world that is consumed by darkness.
