2024 has unarguably been a great year for Electro both with overall visibility for the public as well as with the sheer number of quality releases being put out over the year. With a newfound buzz surrounding my beloved genre, I'm hardly keeping up! I feel like It was a busy year both production-wise and promotion-wise for @DVSNME and @DarkScienceElectro respectively, however, I found some time to put together a mix of my personal favorite tracks from 2023. Dark Science Electro presents - Best Of 2024

Keith Tenniswood, known as Radioactive Man, is a pioneer in electronic music with roots in the mid-90s alongside Andrew Weatherall as Two Lone Swordsmen. Their experimental work on Warp Records set a benchmark for machine funk and electronic exploration, complemented by prolific remixes for artists like Spiritualized, Primal Scream, and Ricardo Villalobos. As a solo artist, Tenniswood’s celebrated debut Radioactive Man (1999) fused sound system culture with Drexciyan electro, leading to five studio albums and his current releases on his label Asking For Trouble.

A master of live performance and collaboration, Keith has worked with icons like dBridge, Ben Pest, and David Holmes, delivering razor-sharp beats designed for the dancefloor. Beyond production, he’s an acclaimed mastering engineer at Curve Pusher, ensuring total creative control over his music. His upcoming sixth album, Jam Out The Kicks, reflects years of global touring and dancefloor energy, with a new AV show set to captivate audiences in 2025.

Electro producer Ara-U began his musical journey in the late ‘90s, playing a pivotal role in developing the underground scene in South America. His early sets fused vinyl and synths, using a hybrid setup of Roland machine drums, turntables, and FX to explore acid and breaks. Now based in the UK for over two decades, Ara-U’ s sound remains rooted in raw analogue electro, showcasing his unrelenting passion for the sound.

As the founder of No Static Automatic (NS/A), Ara-U celebrates the label’s 5th anniversary this year. Founded in 2020 the label has established itself as a respected home for underground electro from across the world. Releases have come from figures from the genre with Ed DMX, Radioactive Man, Kronos Device, Second Storey, Ben pest, Manao and many more. This year he just released a collaboration with Ben Pest on NSA and a remix for Radioactiveman Kick out the jams remixes on AFT, his electro-punk band Return of the Luddites’ debut album. Next coming year as well as his own solo LP.

Ara-U’s own production has not only been released on NS/A but various EPs and tracks have dropped across Avoidant, Censor Music, Co-Accused Records, Bass agenda as well as his 2019 collaboration with Radioactive Man ‘Plastic Attack EP’ on Asking For Trouble. His productions and NS/A releases alike have received support from some of the most respected DJs with support from the likes of Helena Hauff, DJ Bone, Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke, Mad Miran, Jerome Hill, Alienata, and Solid Blake and has been featured in Resident Advisor, Mixmag Spain and DJ Mag.

As well as putting the finishing touches to his first album, Ara-u has developed a hardware live set that channels his take on analogue sounds - traversing machine funk, driving basslines and dark pads. His live performances are as dynamic and raw as his productions, keeping his music authentic and raw to the core.

Lee Cee is a Scottish vinyl-only DJ based in Paisley. She began collecting records in 1997 and later explored her father's techno collection, which significantly influenced her musical style. 

Her sets are meticulously curated journeys through the essence of underground culture, showcasing a diverse range of tastes, particularly in Techno, Acid, and Electro. In 2002, she started her journey in the underground free party scene, performing at her hometown’s legendary Club 69, which unveiled the depths of underground sound and shaped her into a standout force in the music scene.

Throughout her career, Lee has supported notable artists such as DJ Pierre, The Exaltics, Radioactive Man, Co-Accused, Jerome Hill, Facets, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Nightwave, and Maria Chavez. Since 2019, she has also been a resident DJ on Tech-Know Radio, part of Glasgow’s Groove City Radio. Additionally, she is one-half of the turntablist duo, The Paisley Tapes.

Lee Cee’s sets are a testament to her dedication to the underground, delivered with unparalleled precision.
