Sunday, October 13, 2024, corresponds to the day Ce Coatl (1 Serpent) in the Aztec calendar or tonalpohualli. This day falls within the trecena of Cipactli (Caiman or Crocodile), symbolizing beginnings, creation, and the awakening of life.

The serpent, Coatl, is a symbol of transformation, wisdom, and power, closely connected to Quetzalcoatl, the god of civilization and knowledge. 

Quetzalcoatl embodies the union of opposites: the serpent, symbolizing the earth, the material, and the terrestrial; and the quetzal feathers, representing the sky, the spirit, and the divine. This teaches us that humans are a manifestation of this duality—both material and spiritual beings—and that the path to wisdom involves finding balance between these two dimensions.

Quetzalcóatl, master of civilization, taught us the power of knowledge—not only to elevate ourselves as human beings but to build communities based on harmony, respect, and deep connection with the earth. Quetzalcóatl, the creator of civilization, also teaches us that true knowledge is the medicine against ignorance and hatred. 

With this sound healing journey, we celebrate all those who resisted, standing firm in their beliefs and values. I created this sound journey in remembrance of the voices that were silenced, the spirits that were muted, and the stories that were lost.

A Rattle Cleansing Ceremony is an immersive sound journey and ritual performance created by Mitotili Rituales, is a series that bridges ancestral Mexican healing traditions with contemporary artistic practice. This work invites participants to engage deeply with sonic vibrations as a form of energetic purification and transformation.

Rooted in indigenous cosmologies and ritual, the ceremony centers on the sound of the rattle—a sacred instrument in many Mesoamerican and global healing traditions. In Rattle Cleansing Ceremony, the rattle’s percussive rhythms function as a sonic tool that disrupts stagnant energy, clears the subtle body, and opens a space for spiritual renewal.

As a piece of sound art, the ceremony transcends conventional performance boundaries, becoming an experiential environment where sound operates as both medium and medicine. The layered textures of rattling rhythms envelop participants, guiding them through states of introspection, release, and embodied presence. The ritual’s repetitive sonic cycles echo the natural rhythms of breath, heartbeats, and the earth, creating a meditative space that resonates physically and emotionally.

The ceremony also acts as a collective healing container, inviting participants to release tension held in the body and psyche, while connecting to ancestral roots through the vibrational language of sound. It is simultaneously personal and communal, traditional and innovative—a living dialogue between past and present.

Between magic rituals and shamanic altars, the sound of Sacred Alkimiya emerges from the heart of Pachamama.
