Initié par Guo Gan, grand maître de Erhu, instrument traditionnel chinois et artiste émérite aux multiples talents, cet enregistrement est né d’une rencontre entre deux interprètes passionnés par la musique de l’époque impressionniste, dont la pianiste, Anne Berteletti, est également spécialiste. Aventure musicale inédite, insolite, qui au travers de deux cultures
– française et chinoise – nous présente une version sonore particulière de ces oeuvres devenues célèbres de par le monde.

This track began life as an extended outro to my other track “Une Barque Sur L’Océan - Bastardised” but, seeing more musical potential in the material than could be explored in a simple coda, I decided to pull this out into being a piece in its own right. Again working to repurpose Ravel’s ideas to portray the movement of the ocean in my own way, in this track I pushed my vision to fully exploit the saxophone’s capabilities further than ever before. The track features complex saxophone percussion as well as a triumphant sax-organ that defines the second half of the piece.

This was my first experiment in my project covering influential repertoire. Taking Ravel’s infamous piano piece “Une barque sur l’océan”, I made it my mission to find a way to reproduce the sensations of his indulgent harmonies and fluid movement in a track with a danceable rhythm and solid structure.
