Think again or not at all

I’ve been experimenting further with re-tuning everything I own into Carnatic scales and using chance operations in my sequencing to control slides, accents and reverb and delay sends.

I used to use maxmsp to retune synths using midi guitar mode and pitch bend on each channel with a snazzy custom patch I built but now oddsound just does it all for me. I think they built weird scales into live itself now but oddsound MTS does it better. I've become slightly obsessed with the bhairavi raga scales, they're dreamy. 

Is anyone else really suffering with live 12? It crashes all the time for me when any project reaches over a few tracks in size...

Molecule - From the basement I

Challenged myself with this one to use the bits of the studio I don't normally get round. Forced myself to make some patches from scratch for the TX81Z which was a lot of fun and the TX802 which I didn't really enjoy and didn't end up using. I did do the old trick instead of assigning multiple voices to the same patch and detuning it which gave me the massive woolly bass. The pad and stabs were from the TX81Z and I liked the pad so much I resampled it on the emax and layered it with the original. The filters on the emax sound like birds screeching when you crank the resonance which gives a lovely ambience. I fucked about with some reverse reverb on the stabs which is always fun. The drums were all off the S1100 with heavy use of the FX board which started to smell a bit like burning while I was recording so I'm going to swap the PSU out before it catches fire.

The distorted synth in the background was the x0xb0x and the lead cat noises were the sh-101, sure what else would they be. The heart beat kick was the xbase-09 which is my favourite kick machine. Everything in the room was retuned by oddsound into carnatic scales but every couple of hours I'd have to check the 101 and the 303 hadn't wandered too far off piste as the studio warmed up.


Heavy use of the space echo and quadraverb, as always ;-)
