Alkoholen fick mig att känna mig mindre ensam

I veckans avsnitt möter jag Karin Adelsköld, välkänd komiker, journalist numera också författare till den självbiografiska boken "Jag tycker det är tungt nu".
I ett öppet och modigt samtal delar Karin med sig av sin resa in i – och ut ur – alkoholismen.

Hon berättar om hur alkoholen länge blev hennes sätt att hantera stress, ensamhet och ångest. Som för många började det oskyldigt – ett glas vin för att slappna av eller dämpa oron – men det växte till ett mönster där alkoholen allt oftare blev en flykt.
Karin beskriver hur hon började dricka i smyg, ibland ur en temugg när barnen var hemma, och hur förnekelsen gjorde det svårt att se att hon faktiskt hade tappat kontrollen.

Vi pratar om skammen, minnesluckorna och den morgon när hon vaknade upp blåslagen och insåg att hon inte kunde fortsätta som förut. Det blev en vändpunkt – även om det tog tid innan hon vågade erkänna för sig själv att hon var alkoholist.

I avsnittet berättar Karin också om vägen till nykterhet och återhämtning:
Hur hon sökte hjälp, hittade gemenskap i tolvstegsprogrammet och sakta började bygga upp ett liv där hon inte längre behövde alkoholen som krycka. Idag lever hon nykter och beskriver sitt liv som både friare och mer meningsfullt än hon någonsin kunnat föreställa sig.

Det här är ett starkt och gripande avsnitt som berör på djupet, men som också ger hopp. Karins historia påminner oss om att det alltid finns en väg ut, hur tungt livet än känns – och att modet att dela sin sanning kan bli en kraftfull början på förändring.

The lyrics were written in collaboration with attendees at my creative writing workshop at Faces & Voices of Recovery Leadership Summit in Washington DC. The theme of the conference was UNSHAKEABLE: Building Resiliance in a Changing World, so we decided to write a song called UNSHAKEABLE!
