Sasha Frere-Jones may be the lion of New York music writing, but the approach to his new memoir, "Earlier," is unassuming. A man sits down next to you and unspools his life story in no apparent order. Luckily, he has a funny way about him, and his stories are interesting. This past October, Leon Dische Becker sat down with the writer-musician to talk sobriety, memory, and the nostalgia trap.

Trumpeter Chris Williams and cellist Lester St. Louis are two of the busiest regulars in Brooklyn’s improvised-music scene. Yet, when the two join forces as HxH (pronounced "H by H") they cast their acoustic practices aside in favor of digital immersion, making sounds at once art-minded and accessible, and true to the tenets of spontaneous composition and "social music." 

On the second Sunday of July, shortly after the conclusion of their PW music residency, the two sat down with Piotr Orlov to chat about the nature of their collaboration.

After an extensive renovation, the facility now houses artist studios,
exhibition and performance spaces, a science lab, a recording studio, and
other spaces as needs arise. The floor plan is open and flexible,
encouraging a transparent, collaborative environment where international
artists, musicians, scientists and educators can co-exist and create
together.

Entry to Pioneer Works’ main exhibition space and artist-in-residence
studios are free and open to the public Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 6
p.m. Tours are available upon request.
