The Academy of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and The Mystifiers Foundation join forces for the second edition of a groundbreaking musical project. Over four days in April 2025, members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra's Academy and musicians from The Mystifiers Collective will come together to create new artistic work, culminating in a performance in The Amsterdam Zaal, Concergebouw on April 10th 2025.



The heart of this project beats from the idea that both collectives step outside their usual boundaries and familiar sounds. While the Academy of the Concertgebouw Orchestra excels in the classical genre and works traditionally through the interpretation of pre-written musical notation, The Mystifiers embrace a dynamic approach and a mix of genres with plenty of room for improvisation and very few scores. By experimenting with this unexpected combination of young musicians, they challenge themselves and each other, creating a space where musicality and social engagement are elevated to new heights.

The Mystifiers x KCO Academy 2025

Stichting The Mystifiers is a unique organization dedicated to creating inclusive music making experiences that prioritize equity and inclusion. Our mission is to build a new cultural space that amplifies the voices of underrepresented musicians in the industry and provides them with opportunities to perform on professional stages. Through the transformative power of music, we empower individuals in recovery, including those facing psycho-social challenges and homelessness. By collaborating with welfare institutions, artists, conservatories, and renowned venues, we create a supportive environment that nurtures artistic skills and fosters talent. 

Our projects and performances open new doors for our members to (re)connect with other musicians and to society. This sense of belonging and purpose increases self-confidence and reduces (self) stigmatisation and eventually contributes to recovery and combating isolation. 
We believe that the music sector, in turn, benefits from a strong connection with society. Through our performances, we bring these different worlds together to show that we are not so different. 
The Mystifiers Orchestra highlights and celebrates underrepresented musicians from Amsterdam, raises awareness of social inclusion among a wider audience, and helps enrich the cultural sector as a whole.
