Menemora is my long term artistic project about the politics of rest. Rest is a precious, necessary thing - however access to it is disproportionate. 

This EP was made to accompany an installation of soft sculptures which people could lay on, and take a nap as they are sung to sleep. Sung in a fictional language that no one understands, the music of Menemora bypasses intellectual processing in order to be experienced by the body, a pre-requisite to deep rest.

Inspired by artists such as Tricia Hersey, and Navild Acosta and Sosa.

They gathered at dusk, their shapes half-lost in the drifting fog, forming a ragged ring around the ancient monolith. The stone was older than any of them, carved with symbols even the most devoted cultists pretended to understand. Red torches hissed in the cold air, their glow shuddering like trapped hearts.

The Circle began its chant. The ground vibrated first, then the trees, and then something deeper, something that didn’t quite belong to the world. The monolith responded with a low hum, a sound that felt like a memory trying to claw its way back into existence.

No leader spoke. No figure emerged from the dark. The ritual didn’t need a master. It remembered itself.

The light dimmed. The chanting swelled. For a heartbeat, the earth loosened beneath them, sinking as though something vast shifted in the deep.

Silence followed, sharp and waiting.

The Void Remembers.

This is my 5th set and I finished it at 5pm Sydney.

This is also the first time I tried making a hard techno set and it went amazingly smooth, 8 hours of concentration and here I am. 

I chose Nostalghia because I wanted to evoke that grand, poetic, almost spiritual Soviet aesthetic. It’s also a long and painfully slow film—one I’ve never actually finished—much like how no one has ever made it through my sets from start to end. But that doesn’t stop me from finding a sense of aesthetic closure in my own narrative.

In any case, I’m genuinely satisfied with this piece. When I first listened back, my body even reacted as if I were in a mild trip—probably also because I hadn’t slept. 

I believe you’ll enjoy it. It’s not perfect, but it’s the kind of thing no one really dislikes.
