On this week’s Line Noise, Ben Cardew spoke to Danny Briottet, one of three members of London’s Renegade Soundwave, a hugely influential electronic music group, who combined punk, electro, dub, indie, hip hop and industrial into a splendidly strange mixture that blew up raves, ignited college radio in the US, influenced The Prodigy and even translated into chart hits. You have almost certainly heard their best-known song, The Phantom, but each one of their four albums is very much worth your while. We spoke about coming up in London, sampling The Clash and internal tensions. I hope you enjoy it.

Cocaine Sex was originally recorded & included, Sub Aqua Overdrive Dub for Rhythm King Records(Mute Records dance subsidiary) in 87. Later reissued on Mute Records. Cocaine Sex has spawned many children over the years through various recordings & I've included some of the many including Dragonbass Soundsystem & Renegade Soundmachine to exemplify its broad impact & bookended with a vocal & instrumental versions of our most recently released recording A.D.I.D.A.S... for the Hua Hua, Compilation album."

Step forth the mighty Renegade Soundwave with all the wit, cheek, and chaos that defined RSW, Asquith dips deep into their archives, pulling out tracks from the seminal Cocaine Sex sessions, Rhythm King’s dancefloor dubs, and RSW’s back catalogue, offering a true taste of a time when dub, industrial, and raw attitude collided. It’s a celebration of that unmistakable renegade spirit that never quite fit into any box – and wouldn’t have wanted to.

Pete Bromley has been Stoke On Trent's top House DJ since 1989 and it has been an interesting and varied journey for him! Resident DJ at Stoke's first successful Underground Dance night 'Introspective' back in 1989 he went on to play at the infamous Shelleys Laserdome as well as other influential clubnights across the UK. Pete's next residency was to be at the Freetown in Hanley which would see him play alongside DJ's like Sasha & Dave Seaman. This would become the stepping stone to his next residency, the legendary Golden. Pete was the main resident DJ at Golden for an amazing 11 years which saw him play with the worlds biggest DJ's bar none. During this time he played many guest appearances at places such as Cream, Renaissance, Ministry Of Sound and DJ magazine listed him as one of the most popular resident DJ's in the world, resulting in his Essential Mix live on Radio 1 alongside Pete Tong at Sankeys in 1996. Quite an accolade seeing as he has never bolstered his career with international gigs, remixes or a recording career as 99% of producer/DJ's do these days. After Golden's demise In 2003, Pete then went on to become one of the resident DJ's at Satchmo's which has now become part of Stoke clubbing folkelore and his position has been cemented over the last years as resident DJ for the Move and their parties at The Sugarmill, Spode Warehouse & The Underground  playing alongside Jamie Jones, Patrick Topping, Solardo, Skream, Annie Mac, Derrick Carter, Pete Tong, MK, Todd Terry, Seth Troxler, The Martinez Brothers, Steve Lawler, Hot Since 82, Eats Everything, Darius Syrossian,Micheal Bibi, Alan Fitzpatrick, wAFF,  Dimitri From Paris, Kenny Dope, Low Steppa, Dan Shake amongst dozens of House musics elite. HALSTON of NEURAL STIMULUS RECORDINGS (NSR) / https://halston.club / BOOKINGS: Judd512@comcast.net  I’ve been a Disc Jockey now since 1992, starting at age 15 when I bought my first Technics SL-1200MK2 turntable and DJ mixer along with starting to buy vinyl records just as the rave parties were starting to come about in The San Francisco Bay Area and of course in the U.K., Canada and Europe. Back then I started to buy and read Mixmag, Muzik Magazine along with DJ Mag for years. Since I have amassed an extensive vinyl (7000+) & CD (500+) collection, along with a huge collection of high quality digital audio files over the years in my computer. I play mostly progressive house, deep house, and techno music, along with sets of industrial & new wave and ambient music, which were my musical interests prior to the rave parties of the 90’s. I’ve loved electronic music since I was young from Duran Duran to Depeche Mode to New Order to Ministry, Skinny Puppy, FRONT 242, Siouxsie & The Banshees, to DJs Sasha & John Digweed, Tiga, Jeno & Garth, and The Hardkiss Brothers (Scott, Robbie & Gavin Hardkiss) the list is endless. Today I still love to use vinyl records in my sets along with digital files & CDs. As an audio engineer from SAE Expression College I prefer to use vinyl records or AIFF/WAV files when I am putting out an 320kpbs MP3 recording of a set that I’m DJing so as to keep the best sound quality.
