I really love the techstep drum n' bass sound of the mid to late 90's, so here's another exploration of the more obscure side of this era, focusing on b-sides, remixes and album tracks from some of the scene's best-known names, as well as some more obscure artists. Some of these tracks I've NEVER heard in anyone else's mixes, but IMO they are all stone killers. Enjoy!

Happy New year one and all, from Dirtbox Recordings As we roll through our 6th year in existance and 2025. We are about to embark on a huge schedule for this year full of exciting music and artists.

We have fully planned our entire year of Drum and bass bangers and what better way than to start this than to bring in one of our most popular series to pave the way, The amazing `Rock N Rollerz` series with our fourth installment.

But what makes this release so special is the return of one of our original artists on the label, None other than Birmingham, UK resident roller himself. Slaine.

The owner and founder of the `Ghost Snares` label has brought us the heavy artillery he has for us with 4 big rolling DNB  destroyers.

1/ “Crooked”

Kickstarting the release a very trippy and calm intro that leads us into an Amen attack laced with Slaine Bass hits that will rumble any jungle rave into oblivion.

Very straightforward, Very Serious and meaning business this one as we see Slaine setting the tone early on for what's in store.

2/ “Vert”

Some absolute classic sounds and techniques are brought to the forefront with “Vert” a deep and heavy roller with Slaine’s enigmatic style and stand alone layered basses make this one a stand out for the release.

Neuroscape sweeps and sound effects are dotted throughout this to give it a much heavier tech feel while still not letting go of those Jungle roller roots.

3/ “Sterile”

Three quarters of the way through and we have been spoiled. The treats are still rolling out as `Sterile` Pits some amazing spaced out cosmic sounds fit for an astronaut's landing with Slaine’s signature DNB mould.

A twisting and turning DNB drop fills the speakers as this one takes no prisoners

4/ “Baby Steps”

A very serious roller. and the final track of the EP takes us back to those early Slaine sounds on Dirtbox of 2018.

A fantastic and well deserved throwback to our early sound here and who better to deliver that than the man responsible.

We keep it serious, we keep it edgy and we keep it ravey on this one. A fantastic way to end a momentous start to 2025

Dylan Hilsley is a force to be reckoned with in the history of Drum & Bass. Having put his mark on the scene with an instantly recognisable sound he’s helped catapult a lot of careers through his involvement on labels such as Outbreak, Biotic, Cylon and obviously Freak Recordings.

A DJ with a distinct preference for dark and moody sounds, with the occasional indulgence into flat out agressive sounds, Uncut Anger has been active since 2001.

As a member of the now defunct Utreg Massive, Uncut Anger was known for the graveyard shifts with hard as nails drum & bass sets, incorporating the occasional hardcore techno sounds when the mood was right. His technical prowess behind the decks earned him gigs alongside the likes of Technical Itch, Limewax and Evol Intent.

As a counterbalance he anonymously donned the Beast of Legend moniker which allowed him to express his love for the deeper sounds in drum & bass. Independently from the Uncut Anger alias, this also got him appreciation from peers unaware of his angry moniker.

As years passed Uncut Anger's attention broadened, causing him to listen to other sounds and changing his studio equipment. No longer feeling the need to fit in a box or niche or feeling the pressure to score gigs, this allowed him to play just whatever he feels like. However, darkness is ever right around the corner.
