What to do when stuff breaks? From a toaster to a tablet, it's often less frustrating and more tantalizing to just buy something new—but a growing number of people around the world want you to pull up to a table at a Repair Café instead.

Screwed. Why DIY Repairs Are So Difficult

Elizabeth Marcus and Margaret Thomas, Newburyport residents and organizers of the upcoming Repair Café to be held at the Senior Center from 10 AM – 2 PM on April 27th talk with Mary Jacobsen about the service provided by the Repair Café. They clarify what kind of items such as clothing, bikes, small appliances, and jewelry, can be brought in to be repaired for free by a group of volunteer repairers, as well as what not to bring.

Marcus and Thomas discuss why the Café’s sponsoring organizations, the Time Trade Network of Greater Newburyport and the City of Newburyport’s Toward Zero Waste initiative, believe the Repair café has important and positive environmental impacts, and why they think participating in the café can be both fun and a bonding experience for the community.
