In the final Sunday of our reThink Everything sermon series, culminating on Palm Sunday, we explore how repentance is ultimately a trajectory toward forgiveness. Three men hung on crosses two thousand years ago. Luke 23:32-43 records the mockery that surrounded Jesus as he hung on one of those crosses. One of the crucified joined the mockery. The other was awakened by it, and he called to Jesus in unashamed faith. In that moment, his sins transferred crosses from his to Jesus', as Jesus, hanging beside him, became his ransom. Jesus promised him heaven from that day forth. All who call on Jesus in faith and repentance will be saved. The simplicity of it is testament to the worthiness of Jesus as ransom for our sins.

We are invited to confront the profound implications of Jesus' resurrection in this year's Easter message. The Gospel of Mark challanges us to examine the historical evidence and consider what it means if this extraordinary event actually occurred. The empty tomb confronts our intellect, stirs our hearts with grace, and inspires hope that transforms how we live. We're reminded that the resurrection isn't just about believing facts, but experiencing a love that outweighs death itself. The message emphasizes that no matter our failures or shame, we're welcomed with open arms by a God whose grace knows no bounds. As we reflect on the disciples' journey from fear to faith, we're encouraged to let our own weaknesses drive us deeper into God's transformative love. This Easter, we're called to embrace the resurrection's power to free us from fear and propel us into a life of purpose, knowing that our actions in God's kingdom ripple into eternity.

On the morning of Jesus' resurrection, the angels asked a great question: Why do you seek the living among the dead? In Luke 23:44-24:12, we read of the certain death, certain burial, and certain resurrection of Jesus Christ. Now we must ask ourselves if we will pretend it didn't happen or, if we believe it happened, whether we will continue to seek life and meaning among the deadness of this world or seek it with Jesus, the Living One, our Lord and Savior!

Proximity Is Not the Same as Relationship
This moment speaks directly to us today. Many people are near Jesus — even in church, around Christian things — but not actually with Jesus.

“You can be next to Jesus and still miss Him.” 

The man on the left died near Jesus, but not with Jesus.
The man on the right died with Jesus, and woke up in paradise.

Which criminal are we? This is the ultimate question.

Are you the one who wants Jesus to save your life so you can keep it?
Or are you the one who says, “I deserve death. Remember me.”

Both criminals had the same opportunity.
Both were the same distance from Jesus.
Only one walked into eternity with Him.

Jesus invites you to move from beside Him to with Him.
He doesn’t force. He lets you choose.

Will you surrender?
Will you die to your old life?
Will you let the man in the middle make the difference in your life today?
