To achieve this, the band carefully crafted the sound with a vintage-inspired production, mimicking the sonic textures that recordings of the time naturally carried. This includes:

Vintage-style recording warmth – The track was shaped with soft compression and analog-style EQ, keeping the rounded, slightly muted highs and deep, rich lows typical of mid-40s jazz ballads.

Aged gramophone effect – Since gramophones were still widely used in homes in 1945, many people would have first heard songs like Autumn Leaves on shellac records. This version of Echoes of Spring embraces that nostalgic feeling with subtle vinyl hissing, a soft background warmth, and gentle imperfections in the dynamics, recreating the authentic listening experience of the time.

Organic instrument dynamics – Unlike modern digitally-polished recordings, this song intentionally retains natural variations in volume and texture, much like a live performance captured with ribbon microphones in a dimly lit jazz club. This means a soft hiss, slight wavering in the dynamics, and the warmth of imperfection all contribute to the emotional depth of the song.

A timeless experience – With Oceana’s velvety vocals soaring through the mix like a classic jazz singer, supported by smooth electric guitar, cinematic strings, and a soulful saxophone solo, the arrangement bridges eras—honoring the past while keeping the music fresh and alive for today’s listeners.

The result? A song that feels like it could have been pressed onto a 78 RPM shellac record, played on an old wooden gramophone, filling a quiet room with the echoes of spring and nostalgia.

Barbonus is a German lyricist who treats songwriting as a form of literature. His tracks begin with words – fragments of prose, quiet observations, poetic disruptions – and build outward into minimalist soundscapes.

Instead of writing hits, Barbonus writes moments. His lyrics don’t chase hooks; they linger, reveal, suggest. Framed by gentle synths and indie-flavored textures, his work explores memory, digital disconnection, and the beauty of unfinished thoughts.

Beyond his solo work, Barbonus moves between several constellations:
• with Vela Sorell he forms the duo BC25, exploring fragile songs of memory and breath.
• with Klarstein.rocks he releases playful Country-inspired tracks and writes German lyrics in the ironic spirit of the NDW.
• in his archive work, he reconstructs cassette recordings from the 1990s, recovering fragments from a rehearsal basement.

With growing attention from international blogs describing his sound as “electronica with heart” and “a softer, more introspective space,” Barbonus positions himself less as a performer and more as a narrator. A voice at the edge of the frame, crafting scenes in words before sound enters the room.

For him, music is not the message – it’s the carrier wave.
