When I first started making retro music, I struggled to capture certain sounds. Despite growing up listening to a lot of it, I had to immerse myself in knowledge of how it was made and the techniques of the time. By combining modern DAW and techniques, I've developed my own unique approach. This track was inspired by those times when you lack the energy to socialize. It reflects on the circumstances, the rooms, the glances, past loves, and past life, yet not finding the energy to create something special and unique again. It's like running on fumes when the well has run dry. While creating this 80s vibe sound, instead of my usual sci-progressive direction, I found myself leaning into the 80s vibe lyrically.

The future may not have been realized yet, but I seem to be realizing my retro wave desert rock ambitions with this latest new mix. I reminisce about old TV shows and books we read in the 80s and 90s that depicted what the future would be like. None of them seemed to accurately predict what it turned into. However, I believe it’s more of a delayed phenomenon, where there are unforeseen technological advancements and other developments that are still far beyond our current timeline.

Hey, I’m Louis Katz, a musician inspired by the timeless sounds of 60s rock, the poetic depth of Bob Dylan, the raw authenticity of Tom Petty, and the vibrant energy of surf guitar. I am a producer, multi-instrumentalist, and mix engineer. I am originally from the Hudson Valley Region of New York, but I now live in Los Angeles, California.

I have been a long time member of the Woodstock, NY progressive rock band ‘3’, and founded my own project in 2012 called “The Grape And The Grain”. I have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with such acts as, Dream Theater, Scorpions, Porcupine Tree, and Coheed and Cambria, as well as many more on the road with 3.

Some of the other artists I’ve worked with include, Ian Flanigan (The Voice), The Little Miss, Rhett Miller, Weerd Science, 9 Theory, Sean Fleming, Michael Duca, Locomotive, Danyaal, Dan Lavoie, Michal Towber, Absurdist Fiction, Jim Weider's Project Percolater, producer/drummer Jerry Marotta, Jaden Larue, and Ceili Rain.

I also write and record music for sync licensing, commercials, and TV. I've worked with such great companies as, ABC, ArtClass, AdCouncil, Vox Media, Spyn Music, Studio Fontana, Silverlake Sync, Planet Waves FM, Pacifica Radio, and Sprint Music.
