February is National CTE (Career and Technical Education) Month.  On WSVA Radio's "Early Mornings", Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Vice President of Programs Hannah Frazier and her Advisor Jennifer Stroop, from East Rockingham High School and FFA State President Grayson Long of MTC and Turner Ashby High School, talked about the program and how its helping students learn valuable life and career skills.

Allie King provided insights into Farm Credit construction loans, explaining their benefits for farmers. Additionally, Dr. Eric Bendfeldt shared information about a Soil Health Podcast, emphasizing the importance of soil health in sustainable farming.

The 14th annual Rockingham County Fair horse show is this Saturday and Sunday.  Jane Cline, a volunteer, who helps organize the event, says the interest has grown over the years and this year's show will run for two days.  Featuring many breeds of horses, the show and weekend, features the horseshow, games, auctions and even a cake walk.  All the money raised will help the horse show continue.

Annual Horse Show returns to Rockingham County Fairgrounds

It was 100 years ago that Charles Wampler Sr, a poultry farmer in Dayton, VA, started what became the modern poultry industry. In 1922, when he hatched 52 turkey eggs at Sunny Slope Farm, which led to the modern-day hatcheries. Amy Roscher with the Virginia Poultry Federation talks about plans for the Virginia Poultry Festival, September 13, 2025 at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds.   The festival will include displays spotlighting the history of the industry, a barbeque chicken contest, food and music by the local group, Jack and Davis Reed.  The festival will run from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
