There are moments when you feel the need to return to your roots, to relive your memories and find yourself in them, as if rummaging through an old chest that still holds the scent of home. This piece is my journey into that old world, a world I carry with me even though I am far away. It’s my way of reconnecting with the earth and the calm hills of Ireland that call me back over and over whenever I feel lost.

When I began composing, I let myself be carried away by a deep longing, by a melancholy that seemed to come from the depths of my soul. In those moments, the music flowed on its own as if it had always been there just waiting to be set free. It’s a piece that feels like a bittersweet embrace, a comforting touch filled with memories and untold stories. It’s about places I haven’t forgotten and people who still live within me even if they’re no longer by my side.

As I play, I feel like I’m traveling down a familiar path, a path I’ve walked so many times in my thoughts. This journey is full of vivid images: quiet sunsets, soft light filtering through the mist, the sound of the wind whispering through the grass as if telling the stories of those who came before me. There is silence, but it’s a silence that sings. A place where I feel whole even though pieces of my heart have scattered over time and distance.

"Through Mist and Memory" is perhaps my most honest way of saying that sometimes you need to go home, even if only in your heart. It’s like opening a window to the past and allowing myself to feel everything without reservations, the joy, the pain, the nostalgia. And in all this mixture, I find my balance, that feeling that everything makes sense. I hope that as you listen, you feel a part of this warmth and peace, no matter how far you may be from the places you call home.

Before lyrics wrapped in neon and soul.
There was just earth —
and memory.

Gloria grew up close to the ground.
Not just physically — barefoot on dirt roads,
knees grass-stained and palms pressed against tree bark —
But spiritually.
She felt everything deeply:
the wind, the way it shifted moods,
The stories in the soil,
The scent of rain before it fell.

But memories came heavy.
Especially the ones that wouldn’t let go —
voices no longer speaking,

And through them, she sings.

Mary Ellyn and Joe Sensenbrenner, nominated by Rooted, are winners of the Liesl Blockstein Community Leadership Award, have worked for decades to safeguard public lands to ensure that the public has access to viable, beautiful open spaces. Their works have included Troy Farm and Gardens and McPike Park in Madison; Clarence & Cleopatra Johnson Park, Brown Street Academy, and Alice’s Garden in Milwaukee; and the construction of the Badger Rock Center.

Joyce Hall was nominated by Freedom, Inc., and is the winner of the Sally Sunde Family Advocate Award. in her work includes she provides emergency crisis response, court support, rapid rehousing, and interpersonal violence mitigation for Black, Southeast Asian, queer, youth, and low- to no-income survivors.

Ximena Linares-Rodriguez, nominated by Tenant Resource Center, is the winner of the Linda Sundberg Civil Rights Defender Award. Her work ensures that Spanish-speaking families can navigate and access critical tenant resources. Recognizing the barriers faced by immigrant communities, Ximena and Tenant Resource Center’s Associate Director, Chrisbelly Antimo, partnered with "Joining Forces for Families" to launch Madison Area Partners and Allies (MAPA).

As an interior designer, music is the undercurrent that stirs my creativity. It whispers in the quiet moments and roars when ideas ignite. Aoife, aka Elfé, Irish-born and just recently returned to Ireland after several years immersing herself in Berlin's thriving music scene. It was there that she found her inspiration, honed her skills and emerged as a DJ, playing at Berlin's infamous Kitkat Club, Sisyphos and more.

She is a firm believer in the power that music has to elevate our consciousness to higher states, to connect us to ourselves and each other. Her sets are not just a performance, but a co-creation, a shared experience with the dancefloor. She enjoys building momentum, leading the audience on a journey towards moments of pure ecstasy and deep cathartic release. Her music style spans a broad spectrum ranging from sexy, progressive house with hints of tribal influence to uplifting afro house and techno.
