With permission from Naomi, Ruth sought to glean in the field where she found favour and happened to go into the field of Boaz.  What seemed by chance was orchestrated by the LORD to show Himself faithful to the living and the dead.  The passage shows how obedience to God in a little things brings His blessing upon our whole lives.

Synopsis:  In submission to her mother-in-law, Ruth went to the threshing floor to communicate her desire for Boaz to perform the duty of a near kinsman.  Boaz rejoiced at her request, and in the morning he sent Ruth home loaded with barley.  Naomi was confident Boaz would settle the matter that day, and Christians can be at rest knowing Jesus has done all to redeem everyone who repents and trusts in Him.

Exploring the Book of Ruth: A Love Story

In response to Ruth's request, Boaz went to the gate to find the nearest kinsman to organise the purchase of Naomi's land as well as Ruth's redemption.  When the closest kinsman was unable to redeem, Boaz was glad and willing to acquire Ruth as wife.  Through them God provided Naomi a son, a beautiful illustration of God's grace extended to all by the Gospel.
