An all too familiar road that I'm weary of walking.
Bared pieces of my soul

Yet it seems I'm clearly lost in
these fantasy driven thoughts of me & you.
To no avail but it's the cost to see the truth.
And instead of feeling free by the sight of it I'd equate it
to more like a blinding.
Not bright like a sunny day but
more like a thousand stars exploding over the night
& leaving a valley charred yet my eyes are open despite.
And once the wounds heal we grow to call them battle scars.
I hid mine,
rather had not seen battle at all.
Yet here I am again, bringing my sword to draw.
On guard for the next encounter.
Recruit in the war of hearts.
And here you are, across from me on the battlefield.
Looking to penetrate the deepest parts of my battered shield.
You approach in hopes of reaching through to my soul
but I'll only let my guard down
if you show me that's it real.
