Global Underground launched in November 1996 with DJ Tony de Vit and an album based on his set in Tel Aviv, Israel. Since then, the biggest DJs in the world have appeared on our distinctive and iconic covers: Carl Cox, Solomun, Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Joris Voorn, Deep Dish, and Danny Tenaglia have all played their part in GU’s long storied history with albums inspired by their sets at incredible locations everywhere from Burning Man to Ibiza. 

My 1st experience with GU was when I've purchased a second hand CD. That was GU 009 Sasha - San Francisco. This mix cd has changed my life. I've been re-discovering this CD in few diffrent phases of my musical journey. If I'm not mistaking that was around early 1999. I was just starting to learn how to DJ. I was sponging all kind of music. My record collection was quite poor at that time and I was deep into trance and techno. However after hearing Sasha on this CD. It was like new world has opened to me. Progressive House. A blend of house and trance. Hypnotic, melodic and atmospheric rhythms. To me that was definition of trance. Just letting the rhythm to guide you on the dance floor. Therefore, as a one of Halloween special. Let's go back to year 2000 and re-discover what was so special about progressive house back then. Why DJs like Sasha, John Digweed, Nick Warren, Danny Howells and Steve Lawler were on top of the world bringing euphoric rhythms to dance floors across the world.

UNPREDICTABLE SOUND - Weekly Selection #7

It's been 3 months since LH001 took off so here is the long overdue, long haul flight LH002. A total journey time of 2 hours & 30 minutes leaning heavilly towards the influences of Markus Shultz and his Coldharbour series as well as Tiesto's In Search of Sunrise series, particularly series 5. Progressive throughout, I resisted the urge to build this up to full pace at the end and decided to let it simmer as I wiuld for a warm up. Figuration Libre part 3

A relative newcomer to the world of underground dance music, Lorenzo Balzarini joins the Clubsonica roster with his “Centella / Underworld Dragon” EP with a pair of remixes from seasoned South American artists.

From the foothills of the Sierra Chicas, renowned for its natural beauty, Córdoba resident, Lorenzo Balzarini has developed a “deep passion for electronic music” becoming a fan of “progressive narratives”. Already finding himself supported by the likes of Mariano Mellino during his live events, and by Hernan Cattaneo on his Resident show, Lorenzo has quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with through releases on Freegrant Music and the all-conquering Mango Alley in October 2024.

Now debuting on Clubsonica, “Centella” is a deep and powerful track that rises and falls with expert dancefloor knowledge. Hypnotic in its rhythmic backdrop, stereo-panned arps and ethereal vocals add gravitas, especially at the spine-tingling breakdown. Meanwhile, a crunching, growling bassline adds intensity across the 7-minute track, driving things forward through the second half in unrelenting fashion.

A similarly rich sound palette sees “Underworld Dragon” open with a mesmerising arpeggiated sequence, while a driving kick and off-beat hi-hat pattern emerge to bring club-friendly vibes. Built for early or mid-set outings, the beatless breaks and cascading pitched synths make for an atmospheric affair before a soaring breakdown of strings pads and sustained bassline creates a platform for the track to burst forward with a compelling bassline post-breakdown.

On remix duties, Buenos Aires-born Augustin Pietrocola has emerged from Tandil Province in the south of the city to carve out a sizeable niche for himself. An artist who made his production debut in mid-2017 after early work for Mystic Carousel and Clinique Recordings, Augustin has gone on to find favour with such esteemed imprints as Univack, Droid9 and Paul Thomas’ evergreen UV and UV Noir. Another Clubsonica debutant, the Augustin Pietrocola remix is a chunky progressive groover that builds effortlessly over its 7-minutes. Familiar melodic echoes of the original make their presence heard, not least with the mesmerising arp and bassline dominance. A subtle rolling groove creates a slightly deeper vibe before and after the exhilarating breakdown in an impressive interpretation.

The second remix comes from Colombian-born Rivellino. Now firmly ensconced in his adopted Barcelona home, the Argentine has seen support from the likes of Solomun and Camelphat in a 6-year production career that has seen his work signed to such notable imprints as Sincopat, Camelphat’s When Stars Align and Edu Imbernon’s Eklektisch. A prominent DJ across the clubs of the Catalan city, his debut on Juan Pablo Torrez’s label is a funky and dynamic house interpretation that makes clever use of Lorenzo Balzarini’s lead motif and effects-laden synth passages. Creating a strong dancefloor groove with meticulously programmed rhythmic poise, Rivellino takes “Underworld Dragon” in new and unexpected directions courtesy of a crunchy new bassline, vocal cuts and a new and vibrant progressive aesthetic.

Originals from Lorenzo Balzarini and remixes from Augustin Pietrocola and Rivellino have seen “Centella / Underworld Dragon” breathe new fire into the Progressive House arena.

His beginnings in electronic music date back to 1990, the year in which the English band Depeche Mode released Violator, an album that marked a turning point in his musical tastes.

At just 16 years old, he was already spinning vinyl on the Technics SL-1200 mk2. His passion for exquisite dance music led him to be the resident DJ for four years @ Nican, a disco bar in his hometown.

His current playlists of deep, organic, and the finest progressive and melodic house are ideal for informal events on rooftops and beach clubs, creating magical moments with countless unofficial remixes of well-known artists, perfect for painting with memories cool sunsets, long evenings and awesome sunrises.

His style of smooth, harmonic mixing, with long and elegant loops, make his sets a listen full of very pleasant sensations.

After his performance at the Closing Party @ Monkey Beach Club Ibiza in October 2023, and his more than 70 sets as resident DJ in Lloret de Mar (GI), in April 2025 he releases his podcast Forever Lost every Monday and Thursday, a show focused in the newest deep, organic, progressive and melodic house music.

In July 2025 he starts as resident DJ on Cross Land Music, a recognized spanish label releasing fresh deep house. His new show Moments is aired every Tuesday at 5pm CET on www.crosslandmusic.com

A brief insight: Vinyl DJ and resident for Timewarp in Bournemouth. My story is as follows:

Having been exposed to electronic music from the age I had ears, I suppose it was inevitable that I've taken the musical path that I have. Growing up listening to artists such as Human League, Visage, Duran Duran, OMD, Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield, Vangelis etc when the Trance boom came around in the 1990s I was sold. Whilst my school friends listened to Brit Pop. Indie or Hip Hop, I immersed myself in hundreds of dance compilations from the likes of Ministry of Sound & Nukleuz. Still far to young to venture out clubbing I played every compilation to death.

Once I'd turned 18 I found myself at The Opera House in Bournemouth every Friday for Slinky. The music policy was pretty simple but very spectacular: THE finest Trance and Hard House DJs on the planet! Every DJ you'd ever care to mention that was making a noise within those genres during the early noughties played at Slinky. It was Mauro Picotto though who caught my attention the most. Famed perhaps for his Trance anthems such as Lizard, Iguana & Pulsar, it was his ability to crossover into the Techno field that interested me. His Nukleuz compilation "The Lizard Man" is a prime example of this and that led me to his compilation released a year later titled Metamorphose.

Fast forward 5 years and 2 trips to Ibiza in the summer of 2007 convinced me that the Trance scene had gone stale and it was time to focus on the other constant in my musical life: Techno. Picotto's Metamorphose compilation was littered with tracks linked to Picotto (productions, remixes or signed to the BXR imprint) but the standout tracks were Electric Deluxe - Electric Deluxe, Devilfish - Manalive & Chris Liebing - CLR 07.

After 10+ years dabbling with Techno, I found myself back at the beginning. In April 2019 and before everybody started digging their 1210s out the loft during COVID, I decided to go back to basis and re-ignite my love for all things Trance and vinyl and launch a mix project titled Vinyl Destination. I've been doing that for 5 years and now decided to bring all those mixes into one place here on Soundcloud.

Most recently I’ve become a resident for the rapidly growing vinyl only night Timewarp based in Bournemouth. Prior to that I played at a few local nights here and there and held a residency for 2 years on an online Trance radio station called Trancemixers that then morphed into a website called Electronic Mixes. By all means I'd love to play out at a variety of parties so if upon listening to anything I post you think I can provide a soundtrack to a party then please get in touch :-) I'll just need a set of 1210s to play on!

Submission Recordings is a growing Trance/Progressive label from the US. Submission was started in 2012 by Dj/Producer Bryan Indiveri, also known as INDI. Since then the label has been growing and growing. The main goal at Submission Recordings is to find the talented artist that are out there in the world, and bring their music to the stage. Submission has gained support from many artist across the globe with their releases such as Photographer, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Sean Tyas, Aly & FIla, DJ Feel, Paul Van Dyk and more!

Samir Kuliev was born in Baku Azerbaijan in 1979. At the very young age he showed the interest in arts and studied at the Baku School of Choreography. In 1990 when the war broke out in Azerbaijan he and his mother migrated to Krasnodar, Russia where he graduated from Krasnodar Theater Institute and started his career as an actor.

In 2000 Samir moves to Moscow and performs at the different theater venues. During this year Samir was introduced to an incredible word of electronic music and spins his career a different direction. From then on he works as a full-time DJ and organizer of unique parties around the Moscow-city.

In 2007 Samir introduces his own radio show about electronic music titled “Chustvo Ritma” (Sense of Rhythm) on Moscow radio station Megapolis 89.5 FM. In a few years the show gains a popularity and becomes one of the best radio shows about electronic music in Russia and the rest of the former USSR. The most famous artists, musicians and Dj's, such as: Solomun, Sasha, John Digweed, Nick Warren, GusGus, Hot Since 82, Guy Mantzur, Sahar Z. and many others great persons were presented as a guests at this show.Today, Samir's «Chuvstvo Ritma» one of the most popular radio show in Moscow, being supported by more than 20 radio stations.

In 2014 Samir starts a record label “Chustvo Ritma Rec” (Sense of Rhythm) where he produces his own music and tracks of the talented Russian artists creating music in progressive, deep, techno styles. 

In 2016, the monthly show "Sense of Rhythm" appeared on the Frisky radio station in New York, where Samir plays a variety of electronic music for his listeners around the world.

In 2016, Samir became a participant in the international ADE conference (Amsterdam Dance Event) by playing a special set on the dance floor of Frisky radio along with such artists as Just Her, The Third Son, Wild Dark and others.

In 2018, Samir's track "Running up that hill (Tribute to Kate Bush) was supported by Solomun at the FrameWork Festival in Los Angeles and at Tulum in Mexico. Nowdays Samir is not only a participant in many Russian and foreign festivals such as AFP (Russia) and Episode (Vietnam). He is also the organizer of his own parties in the best Russian clubs such as Gazgolder club (Moscow), Chauteu de Fantomas (Moscow) Heaven (Moscow) and others.

Currently, Samir is full of ideas, dreams, and passion for electronic music and is open for co-operation. He wants to expand the scope of dance culture and believes that electronic music can express the deepest thoughts, emotions, beauty and true human greatness.

Luke Volcano is a Polish native DJ who started his musical journey back in 1998. Due to visiting and relocating to European countries like Germany, Netherlands, Ireland and UK. That exposed him to local scenes and allowed to continue his craft. From DJ gigs expanding to hosting his own radio shows and as promoter and host for his own club nights.

The subtle charm of his mixes encourages a reflective sound which focuses on creating moods with his musical expressions. His uncompromising attitude at the decks masks an unquestioning exploration of the power of spatiality in which every track is given breathing room, and accordingly, takes on a sense of the organic.

It's a work of architectural, structural, ranging from deep and atmospheric electronica, to hard hitting techno, creating a synesthetic aura that is almost as powerful as his record selection. A journey towards the endless pursuit of artistic truth.

Matteo Bigliardi is an electronic music artist whose journey has been deeply rooted in sound since childhood when he began his creative path with classical guitar first, and then bass guitar. This early exposure to harmony and structure laid the foundation for an eclectic musical sensibility.

As his creative vision evolved, the pulse of electronic music became a natural extension of his artistic expression. Drawn first to the vibrant energy of Italian Dance and the hypnotic minimalism of early Techno, his exploration soon deepened into the melodic and emotional landscapes of Trance. Over time, this artistic progression led him toward the refined and immersive worlds of Melodic Techno and Progressive House, where emotion and atmosphere meet rhythm and depth. 

His sounds are a reflection of an artist who finds beauty in emotion, tension, and atmosphere.
