This work stems from ideas loosely based on an artistic expression of 'the mechanics of phone sex'. Nexus Licentiosus in this context means a promiscuous connection. The proposition developed in this work concerns how sonic objects as sonic tokens and gestural sonic tokens connect and form narratives. This involves looking at how micro elements connect to become more significant motifs, how motifs become movements, and, moving up the structural scale, how movements
connect to become macro structures, for example; the piece in its entirety.

Nexus Licentiosus 2011_HD

One of the most primitive instruments, the shamanic drum uses different rhythms to encourage different mental states. Helen Kwok improvises a minimal sound bath using a single Shamanic drum. Her journey starts with an upbeat rhythm then slowly, slowly goes deeper until she takes control of your breathing with each beat of the drum sometimes waiting a few seconds before striking. Very challenging and deeply relaxing.
 
This improvised performance is recorded live and on location in Helen's studio in Hong Kong. Distant daytime street noise can be heard which gives a sense of place and reality to the recording.

Sound Bath Sessions 015: Helen Kwok

Yumi gives regular gong baths around Hong Kong. Her humorous and welcoming character complements the emotional sound baths that she performs. Yumi has practiced Reiki for many years and spends her time between Hong Kong and Japan with her family.

This was recorded at Ore Art in Sheung Wan. It was the first solo gong bath I had recorded and it blew me away. I had no idea a single gong could have so much power. Her symphonic gong is very musical with each hit creating a new layer of sound upon the last resulting in an overwhelming wave of sound that fills your mind. I felt new ideas and inspirations emerge perhaps because deep down that was what I was seeking. I would anticipate our future recordings as a time of creation and release.

In the middle of the recording, I had heard a unique sound inbetween the layers. She revealed that she sang into the gong with her voice. It was amazing how it became one with the sounds of gong softening it, making it more human.

Edmund has an extensive collection of metal singing bowls. This was my first recording with Edmund. This relaxing session style incorporated drones as well as hits on the metal bowls creating interesting contrasts and dissonance.

Another beautiful, minimal track from Elka. There is beauty in everything.

Having the city background contrast with the pure tones of the bowls emphasizes them and symbolizes the challenge, but also the hope, that we can cut through the chaos that surrounds us with focus and little effort. I encourage new practitioners to think not only of the immediate sound of their bowls but of the sound beyond them, of the entire experience, and what that could represent as a whole.

Recorded at Elka's private studio that is in a space above her apartment in a small residential area in Yuen Long, the city is kept at a constant distance which is different than the direct sounds in the city center. Birds, everyday sounds of people washing, playing, riding a bike, and talking waft in through a cracked window. It is a wonderful, intimate portrait of Elka and the sounds that surround her in her life.

009: Raiika

In the earliest days of Mu —
before temples, before resonance machines, before sound had learned its own name —
the air itself could hum.

It was not yet music.
It was motion: the trembling of waves inside the fog,
the slow shimmer of dawn above the still lagoons.

The people of Mu never called it anything.
They simply listened.

They believed that every drop of rain carried its own melody,
and when water touched another surface,
it remembered how to sing.

Children held out their hands to the rain,
catching the sound as if it were a living thing made of breath and echo.

They called those moments naive reveries —
not because they were simple,
but because they did not yet know themselves.

Sound did not try to become a song.
It simply existed —
until silence folded it gently back into itself.

At dusk, when the sky turned pale gold and the ocean mirrored the leaving sun,
some would sit by the sleeping waves and play loops from air —
small circles of tone born from wind, shells, glass reeds.

Each loop repeated until it faded, like foam returning to the sea.
None sounded the same, and none were ever finished.
They would say:
the sound of vanishing is the sound of return.

Many cycles later, when Mu was half-forgotten,
its languages scattered into whispers and static,
those naive reveries were found again — faint recordings hidden in stone and salt.

They still sounded fragile, as if shy about existing.
No one dared to fix them.
They were left untouched — small loops of time,
created before meaning, before creation knew itself.

Now, if you listen closely, those sounds awaken once more —
not as compositions, but as memories that belong to no one.

They rise like bubbles underwater — slow, luminous,
forming circles that dissolve into each other.

They have nothing to tell.
They only remind:
once, long ago,
the world made music by accident.

Mu never composed —
it only breathed.

And its breath became a song.

I found a wave in the grass,
kept it safe inside a glass.
In the morning it began —
Mu was breathing once again.



- The Quiet Orbit

Fog is soft, I touch and taste,
like the sea that lost its face.
Somewhere deep my dream still hums,
made of names and little drums.



- Liquid Memory

Water speaks in fragile tone,
like a language made of bone.
Caught a word — it tried to flee,
now it hums inside of me.



- Veil of Aether

The wind forgot the ground below,
it hummed where only echoes go.
I tried to catch its silver skin —
and felt the quiet breathe me in.



- Voice Beneath Water

Shadow dancing on the wall,
knows the shape of spring and fall.
“Who are you?” I asked in awe —
“I’m the pause in what you saw.”



- Minor Garden

If you pour a drop in heart,
tiny circles will restart.
Mu will pass and leave no clue —
just a silence shining through.



- Axis of Return

I asked clouds where dreams are kept,
they said, “Under what has slept.”
Mu then whispered, “Look, it’s near —
on the back of folded year.”



- Light Through Salt Veins

Caught a beam of silver light,
lost it quick into the night.
Mu said softly, “Let it be —
you will shine enough for me.”



- Glass Recalling Air

I forgot the name of sound,
but it follows me around.
When I stop, it stops to too —
when I move, it whispers “Mu.”



- Rising Through Mirrors

Rain was whispering to me,
like a voice beneath the sea.
“I’m with Mu,” I said aloud,
and dissolved into a cloud.



- Child of the Wave

The sea was small inside my hand,
it whispered, “Do not understand.”
I let it go — it stayed instead,
and built a garden in my head.



- Unwritten Spiral

I just cried for no real cause,
Mu said, “Keep it — never pause.
Tears are sounds that make you true,
round and gentle, just like dew.”



- Echo That Dreams

In my sleep I saw some noise,
made of water, dust, and toys.
Mu was laughing: “You’re not two —
you’re my echo, dreaming too.”

“The world once sang and never knew.”

Performance sonora realizada na Primeira edição do Ciclo de performances DES.A.FIO, no Museu Nacional da República, sob curadoria de Luisa Günther, do dia 15 ao dia 17 de agosto de 2025. 

Em “nuvens n.1” e “nuvens n.2” a artista Lind Vieira busca provocar a sensação de se estar entre nuvens, a partir das camadas de sons de loops, ruídos, paisagens sonoras, sons generativos e da música ambiente.

Durante as performances, Lind Vieira constrói o som a partir de camadas, modulando ao vivo e muitas vezes reagindo com o som ao ambiente e público presente. “nuvens n.1” realizada no dia 15/08, Lind Vieira usou duas caixas de som monitor virada para o público. Já em “nuvens n.2” realizada no dia 17/08, foram usadas 4 caixas de som bluetooth espalhadas pelo espaço da galeria 1, fazendo assim, o som soar por toda cúpula do museu. Além disso, durante a performance “nuvens n.2”, aconteceu participações de outros performers presentes no Ciclo, com intervenções sonoras que não foram registradas pela gravação, mas que criaram momentos únicos e efêmeros à medida em que Lind Vieira interagia e respondia modificando o som.

Sound is constantly moving, changing, transforming. In a sense, it can be called humble. In order to become, sound must give itself up completely. Drift without a river is the movement of becoming. The experience of togetherness, the attempt to come closer, to share and observe the conditionality of the separation between us.
When asked to create a sound piece about Kaunas, the artists chose to look at the city from the perspective of professionals, amateurs, and the deaf community who make music together. People come together to experience togetherness. I hear what you hear, and in this experience we are together. Voice meets voice, sound meets sound beyond the boundaries of the body. Sound waves vibrate the air, reflect off surfaces, refract, resonate, and cancel each other out. They enter the human body and are transformed into thoughts, feelings, and experiences. And yet, what exactly connects us? How far can we expand our boundaries to get to know another? Perhaps what is more important for togetherness is not physical reality itself, but the intention to open up to another?
Through sound, touch, smell, and sight, through memories and imagination, we come closer to each other, and through others, we come closer to ourselves.

Sound performance, 23'

Through the piece "A Tune in Tune" I am investigating technological tools, through which our physical and mental sonic reality is shaped. I ask the listener and myself what we hear and why? Harmonic progressions resonate the natural overtones of piano strings, the chains of chords sound otherworldly and crystal clear. It fills in the room with consonant ringing sequences that set  apart from strict 12-TET tuning, overtones start collide, collapse, reflect and resonate unnoticeably changing our sonic reality.

Sound Bath Sessions, fuses sound and wellness by recording sound baths around Asia. The main purpose of the project is to be a platform that connects local practitioners and listeners together. 

These are not your usual sound bath recordings. Recorded live and on location, they are honest portraits of what a live sound bath sounds like to immerse you in their world. They capture the flavor of each location giving them a sense of identity and culture for everyone to hear and belong. 

Please note that some recordings may contain noises that could make the experience quite challenging, but listeners of all levels will be able to find a track to enjoy. Sound Bath Sessions is a Bivouac Recording project.

I am Artur Tokhtash, a composer and sound artist.
My music unfolds at the intersection of classical tradition and sonic art: preludes, improvisations, and electroacoustic structures are not genres, but forms of memory and breath.

For me, sound is ritual. Each piece is not merely a composition but a trace of presence, an echo of vanished spaces, a light from places that may no longer exist.
The piano, in my preludes, becomes a vessel — an instrument that carries not only melody but also the silence between notes.

My works do not function as background. They are spaces for listening, inviting the listener into a state where music becomes both signal and transformation.
