The Bass Witch Project vol 1

Circa 2003. Tube Top Runner. From our record - Internal Espionage. It's super lofi. Recorded in my apartment of the time, on a tascam porta 414. Micah is playing my kids drum set, with one sm 58 as an overhead. He was using some 1/4 inch dowell's, cut to about a foot in length. conventional sticks were just too loud for our environment. Supe lucky my neighbor downstairs put up with it even at that level. Rorac is playing a Peavey guitar, through a small yamaha powered monitor. Pretty cool thing from that time. Have to find what it is later. I'm playing a lefty squire P bass (only one model available at the time and I loved it), maybe just through a really shitty head, through some Bose bookshelf speakers, or some larger ones I found at a garage sale. It's lofi for sure. Not totally improv, but we would get together and jam out ideas a couple or few times and move on. Tube Top Runner (super lofi demo)

Circa 2003. Clone Killer. From our record - Internal Espionage. This one featrures Tim Pratt and Myself. We were both going through the music production program at American River College, at the time. Recorded at Studio B - which was a Soundcraft Goast, to a gold face Fostex ADAT, at the time. Monitors were some Tannoy's and something else. Overhead or heads were AKG 414's, for sure. I used them whenever I could. The snare is a 57 and the kick is probably an RE20, inside the drum almost at the beater. School is really the only place I'd ever done this. It seems like there are better, easier techniques and mics, these days. Butit did sound good. The only thing not provided by ARC, was Tim's Bass. Because this was for school, I'd drawn up a big plan with a timeline. I would be playing most of the stuff and Tim tracking. I'm playing drums, trumpets and ARP Odyssey. We found that thing in storage. Seemingly forgotten. Tim is playing Bass and a Korg X1 for the spacey sounds. Yes, I did tune and I guess Tim did as well. My issue was embouchure, because I didn't practice. But the ideas are still there. Call it car chase, magnum PI, space funk.  In case you are familiar with the ARC program and how it has changed. Throughout the mix, I flip the greats: Barry White gets deeper, SOS Band gets sexier, Róisín Murphy glows with neon seduction, and Kathy Brown delivers pure heat.

Welcome to my unique world of production and sound.  This page contains mostly singer songwriter material, but also includes tracks from some of my other projects and field recordings.  I would consider myself a songwriter/ producer more than anything.  Making music and field recording are a big part of my life.  I use it to vent, process and have fun.  It's a hobby though.  If I had to depend on it for work, I think it would suck the life right out of it.  The only pressure on me now is me.  So, I pour my heart and soul into these tracks whether it be a sad love song or scathing noise, it's all music to me.
