Many Christians have the Word of God sealed in a little box—perhaps in their freezer, so it doesn’t spread too much. The Word of Christ applies to everything you do and everything you are. When you are filled with the Spirit, He will make the Word dwell in you richly. You don’t have to do it—He will do it in you.

Being filled with the Spirit means submitting to one another out of reverence to Christ. God does not give us a chain of command in Scripture; He gives us a chain of submission. If we do not understand what it is to submit ourselves, we cannot be a good leader. Do you want your wife to be submissive? Show her how it’s done by submitting yourself to Christ and to others. The Bible says you are to give yourself to your wife unconditionally, to make her lovely.

God’s will is for us to live upright before Him. When God says no to certain things, it is because he has something better in store for us—like the mother who tells her children they may not eat candy when they’re about to sit down to the dinner she’s been working on all afternoon.
