This track came out of an extended jam with Dave Nicholls.  The first time we played together since my poorly received decision to 'break up the band' (Amber Waves) in 1998 - just as potential touring gig suppoty slot for Kula Shaker was on the cards....  
it was our thinly veiled attempt to do something like Fool's Gold by the Stone Roses.  So thinly veiled, wee called it 'Homage'....!!

Homage OG from 2004

The now customary reworking (in 2025) with vocals and better instruments of an old track (from 2004).  From a jamming session when Dave and I played together for the first time since we splut the band before any success...  we were trying to be the stone roses.  this remake takes the track further away from the origins of the 'homage'.  but it's sill there.  channelling our inner mani, reni, squire and brown.  boys - you burnt bright for a short time, but still lighten up my days most months.  i even love second coming,  thank you for playing Singapore c2013.  you were bloody brilliant.  everythin tight, and in tune and on the groove.  
New Order played the following week.  and they weren't good at all.  1-0 to the Roses.

Homage (To A Life Lost To Interference)

The original Homage was a. ... erm.. homage to a certain manchester band who single-handedly turned a load of indie disco kids onto dance.  my sister Caroline, and therefore me, her younger brother sneaking into the Cube or the Agincourt in Camberley.  

when Dave and I did the original back in 2004ish, I also did a remix.  Which Dave claimed was better.  Having done the rework of the original, here's the rework of the remix. Copy of a copy of copy of copy.

and even more, because now it's a homage to more than one song.  another, slightly older manchester band who were also able to shift from indie to dance via Ibiza - taking in the England football team on the way.  You'll recognise the kick drum and the synth bass sound.  

now, i think this remix is better than all the others.  original?  no.  makes you wanna dance?  absolutely.

That last Sublime Saturday was the right kind of unexpected. First-time guest Worth Planer wowed the crowd, a lot of whom happened to be his posse. He had us up and dancing with his rare, soulful sound. Best way for us to describe his sound is that he's a youthful man with an ancient Deep House soul. His style almost defies description. His selection and care in transition are uncommon and genuine expression. Thomas Fitzgerald started it all dark to set Worth up for the deep spike we knew he would give take advantage of for the win.

As the son of a professional flamenco singer, Thomas has always been surrounded by music.  Exposure to flamenco influenced him because it has a dynamic range of emotions—from the "deep singing" style of cante hondo, to the more lively alegrias.  He has also worked in the corporate, independent, and online music industry for a number of years.  At one point he was a Content Manager for the Electronic Music genre at MP3.com, where he screened over 500 songs per day.  Exposure to a wide range of music explains the range of genres in his mixes—he uses whatever carries the mood.  From listening to Umm Kulthum's "Enta Omri" in his childhood, to New Wave and  Industrial as a teen, it became difficult for him to stick to one sound. Though vinyl was his original format of choice when he started in the 90s, the use of digital mixing has helped him better form soundscapes to expand your headspace.  Let him play with your moods for a spell.
