I've long wanted to expand my musical horizons outward, and getting the opportunity to write a soundtrack for a game was the perfect way to do that. This is the title theme for Gravity Storm: First Mission, an action platformer that lets you control and manipulate gravity. This game is directly inspired from the NES title Metal Storm, but draws influence from other acclaimed platformers of the era as well.

I wrote this song in a 7/4 time signature, and I felt that giving it a moody, atmospheric feel really captured the essence of the game's setting. The space station you must fight your way through is fraught with peril, and danger lurks around every corner. You must use all of your wits to survive...

Gravity Storm OST - Title Theme

Just kidding - of course there was going to be a chiptune track in the game. This is the only pure chiptune in the game, though I did include elements of it in other songs. The tutorial area of the game takes place inside of a computer simulation, which lent itself nicely to this compositional style. I wrote it largely using tritones, augmented 5ths, and the whole tone scale to make it sound deliciously dissonant.

Der Song beschreibt in eindringlichen Bildern die Gewalt und Macht der Naturkräfte, besonders des Windes, der aus allen Himmelsrichtungen über Land und Meer stürmt. Je nach Richtung entfacht er die Wellen, treibt sie gegen Küsten, Flüsse und Berge, und bringt Unruhe und Gefahr. Die Winterstürme werden als zerstörerisch und todbringend geschildert. Am Ende richtet sich der Sprecher in einem Gebet an Gott, bittet um Schutz vor den furchtbaren Stürmen und vor den Schrecken der Hölle.

Song of the sea

The first zone theme! This was directly inspired by Doom, and I wrote this track with the intention that it serves as the titular character's unofficial theme song. 

This song is written entirely in phrygian, but it plays around with the scale and switches keys mid-way as the character continues to leave a path of destruction behind them. The ending is written in 15/8, providing a last bit of insanity before it begins again.
