My Journey to The Body of Breath Method

In the previous episode; Not Grieving, Just Noticing, Tamika shared the complicated story of her father, SD, and what it means to hold space for someone who was never really there. But two weeks later, while watching his funeral streamed from Dominica, something shifted.

As she studied the faces of family in the front pews, Tamika couldn’t see herself in them, and an instinct told her to search deeper. Against her siblings’ advice, she ordered a DNA test. What she found cracked her story wide open: the truth of her real father, hidden for decades by a single misread letter.

This episode traces the journey from a funeral livestream to a DNA match that changed everything, guided by the words of James Baldwin: “Know from whence you came. If you know whence you came, there are absolutely no limitations to where you can go.”

Dramatic | The Story

The parable of the Widow and the Unjust Judge. I'll start here by comparing Jesus' parables to the stories we read to kids at bedtime. Yes, they're a lot alike. Let's have some fun with it.

This parable really does make for a good children's book. Of course, we have all kinds of adult sized questions after hearing this story. No, we may not have any answers for these questions - but I always think it's a good idea to at least ask them - acknowledge them.

Jesus says that this story is about praying and not giving up. Not losing heart. What does it look like to lose heart? Let's imagine ourselves as the widow. What happens when we pray like the widow? 

Maybe the real miracle of prayer is that it changes us - makes us into the kind of people for whom injustice is never normal - makes us into the kind of people who keep showing up in the world where and when it's most needed.

Jesus then connects this to the word "faith." Faith and prayer have a lot to do with each other, I think. Maybe faith is the jet fuel for our prayers. Or maybe it's the other way around. Maybe our prayers are the jet fuel for our faith. Whichever way it goes, faith - a trust that God is NOT like the judge - faith is the thing that keeps us showing up.

Don’t be alarmed if the road feels a few minutes longer every time you drive it.

That's because it is.

As the road lengthens, new side streets may appear. Do not take these, however alluring. Gas stations may pop up to fill in stretches of empty desert. Be wary of purchasing snack brands from them you have never heard of or that do not exist. Cacti will show up every few miles that weren't there on your last drive. These are just cacti. 

No need to fear the cacti.

If your drive on Route 333 takes more than thirty minutes than the last time, report such fluctuations immediately. Multiple former employees, who failed to report such anomalies, are still stuck there.

Void Raiders' names!

Here’s a list of playful yet meaningful names for the Void Raiders that reflect negativity without being too scary for children:
1.	Drifty Fog – The sneaky cloud of confusion makes kids lose focus.
2.	Lazy Lurk – Always hanging around to encourage doing “nothing.”
3.	Gloomi Gloom – Spreading negativity and blocking happy thoughts.
4.	Sticky Lies – A trickster who whispers fibs to confuse kids.
5.	Sneaky Snatch – A sneaky shadow who tries to steal learning treasures.
6.	Buzz Blabber – Loves spreading gossip and distractions.
7.	Huffy Hate – A grumpy shadow who plants seeds of anger and dislike.
8.	Slumpy Sloth – The king of laziness, stopping kids from moving and learning.
9.	Tricky Trick – A master of mischief who tries to deceive kids.
10.	Fuzzy Fogster – The one who clouds kids' minds with brain fog.
These names keep the characters lighthearted and fun, while still showing the “bad forces” that Oteogo and his friends must fight against!
