In the final episode of our Community-based Solutions for Substance Use Challenges season, Just Science sits down with Kristen Lee, Substance Use Program Coordinator at the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, Lizann Roberts, Executive Director of the Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition, and Tara Jennings, Strategic Planning Administrator for Chatham County Government, to discuss their COSSUP-funded Community Data Platform, which helps connect health and justice data for an individual, so that first responders can best meet their needs.  For individuals who frequently cycle through jails, homeless shelters, and emergency departments, there is a need to increase access to community resources to break the cycle of justice involvement and reduce the burden on first responders. In Chatham County, Georgia, the Community Data Sharing Program provides real-time data across public health and safety services, helping first responders gain a holistic view of an individual’s justice involvement and refer clients to the appropriate community resources. Listen along as Kristen, Lizann, and Tara discuss why they decided to use data sharing as a tool to better serve clients with a substance use disorder, how they addressed barriers such as data sharing and privacy concerns, and how the program has not only impacted participating clients, but also local first responders and policy makers. I don’t create my songs with AI.
For me, every track has to grow through its own process, and that simply takes time. That’s where my soul flows into the music.

That doesn’t mean my songs are better or more sophisticated – I’d rather you form your own opinion.
As for vocals, I have to rely on loops, since illness keeps me from singing myself. Often, I discover a vocal line first and build the song around it. This means I sometimes have to compromise on the lyrics, so they don’t always mirror my personal outlook, mode of expression or poetry. Still, it’s important to me to share this truth.

I come from a musical family and was introduced to different instruments at an early age. The one that stuck with me were the drums. Various bands, gigs in small clubs. Even though, for lack of time, I didn’t actively make music for many years, music has always been one of the few constants in a turbulent life.

For the past few years, I’ve been seriously ill and slowly but surely on the home stretch. Since I can no longer play drums (I’m connected to a ventilator 24/7)
i started working with a DAW in 2024. It has become an important part of my life, my way of still creating something when my hands no longer can.

Here on SC there are so incredibly many amazing artists and people from all parts of the world … for me, it’s my universe. And the certainty that something is always possible, no matter how bad things get.
