The 10 Daily Drills for Percussionists Series is a set of 10 Daily Drills each with 5-8 exercises. Each exercise has a custom composed percussion ensemble style track to replace the metronome. Leading off with ever popular body percussion, this new beginning band piece will not only teach your new bandsmen about many articulations and dynamics around the notes and needed rhythmic alterations, but will also entertain their audience with melody and accompaniment sounds of a Axolotl dancing (swimming/dancing), and doing so with a smile (the young ones always seem to be smiling). With snare, bass, crash cymbal, tambourine, suspended cymbal and a bell part that splits into two pitches at times, the percussion parts provide a wealth of education for your new percussion section. Also included is advanced parts for flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet and trombone. These can be played in any combination by motivated beginners, or if you have more than one year in a class. This could also be a way you could feature a soloist from any of the five.

This straight ahead Christmas Masch-up is like having a musical scavenger hunt. See how many your students can identify. This adds color instruments to the mix, along with a few split parts in several main parts. This is not just any Christmas piece. It is written to highlight articulations, dynamics and push each instruments range. The percussion section has several techniques exercised as well. 5, 7 and 9 stroke rolls will push your snare learners. Bell parts depart from simple melodic passes and adds separate notes forming chords teaching spit parts and roles to your mallet students. And YES, of course it has sleigh bells- however there is actual rhythms to follow in this piece that adds to the melodic rhythms.

Santa Comes a Marchin' for Young Bands

This is an exciting, straight-forward fanfare that can make a home as a concert opener that transitions well directly into our National Anthem or a patriotic piece for Veteran's Day or Memorial Day performance. I wrote it for My friend's and mine bands to do a joint performance at a Cardinals Game last summer. The kids nailed it and the 37,000 fans lost it when we finished.

I am a freelance percussion teacher in North Austin area.  I created the 10 Daily Drills for Percussionist to help band directors get a small break to take attendance and to help students have guided warm up practice at home.  It is my hope that the Daily Drill practice tracks will help students want to get started practicing, then after their awesome warmup want to continue a productive lesson.
