To Grieve marked MANOID’s striking debut on hafendisko in 2017.
Emerging from the edge of one of Europe’s last remaining primeval forests and now based in Warsaw, MANOID crafts electronica and techno charged with tension and emotional clarity. While shaping his debut album, he’s also been refining his identity through immersive live sets.

The title track opens a window into his sonic world, arpeggiated synths drifting through mist and melancholy. It’s evocative, slow-burning, and unmistakably forest techno.
Sid Le Rock’s Grievance Mix condenses the track into a bubbling, focused groove, while Pysh leans into the rhythmic pulse, keeping its emotional weight intact.

The release also comes with a video directed by Pat Dudek, a visual meditation on love, loss, and the spaces heartbreak leaves behind.

Truth marked MANOID’s debut album, a ten-track statement from the Polish producer and live act. First emerging in 2014 and known for his work with Pola Rise, MANOID has taken his sound to audiences across South Korea, Iceland, the Netherlands, and beyond.

Truth reflects that journey. Jazz-tinged electronica with contributions from Atom String Quartet’s cellist, modern classical elements shaped by brass from Jedrzej Kupiec, and a standout vocal performance by Josephine Philip (Darkness Falls) all show the depth and detail in his work. Field recordings from a textile museum in Łódź and personal sketches, like a lullaby turned eerie, add further dimension.

Re-uploaded here to revisit one of hafendisko’s most nuanced releases, Truth still resonates with emotional clarity and compositional strength.

I wrote 'Beyond' as a christmas gift for my family. I did not have a specific film in mind when composing it, but I wanted it to feel upflifting and somehwat airy, as if flying through massive clouds.

I wrote this score during an exchange semester in Perth, studying Music Composition at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. For one of our assignments we were given the task to score two scenes from two different movies, one of them being 'Island of the Hungry Ghosts'. We also received a director's brief with some rough guidelines, in this case to capture the protagonist's grief and concussion while also highlighting the admiration for the migration of the Christmas Island red crabs.

'Island of the Hungry Ghosts' (2018, dir. Gabrielle Brady) is a hybrid documentary about
Christmas Island, the immigration detention centre there, and the famous migrations of
the Christmas Island red crab. It centres on Poh, a trauma counsellor working with
asylum seekers. Over the course of the film, increasingly punitive government
legislation makes it impossible for her to do her job and to give any hope to her patients.
Despondent and unable to help, she and her family leave the island. The film ends with
her contemplating the sea for a moment before departing, followed by stunning
photography of the island’s jagged surrounds, and the red crabs finally completing their
migration to sea. The director is trying to express a juxtaposition between the red crab
migrations, and the love and care we have for them; and the natural migrations of
humans, and the punishment they receive for it.

Julius Jendrezok is a German filmmaker and composer. Having worked in the film industry for several years, he started to combine his work in the movies with his skills as a pianist as well as his composition aspirations by writing the music for several short films. Today his repertoire goes beyond film scores and includes both classical and contemporary works. His recent studies at the Western Australian Acaddemy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in Perth marked another important step in his career path.
