SPLITSVILLE bills itself as "an unromantic comedy" which explores the messy, hilarious and sometimes painful terrain of love and breakups, mixing two man children, one open relationship and ridiculous relationship dynamics. That doesn't begin to capture the movie! Actor/writer/director Michael Angelo Covino & actor/writer Kyle Marvin Zoom in and chat about how their creative partnership helped shape the film, why humor is an essential way to process heartbreak and what SPLITSVILLE ultimately says about love and connection.  

In 1990, a group of thieves stole 13 paintings worth hundreds of millions of dollars from a Boston museum in what remains one of the greatest unsolved art heists in history. ANY DAY NOW is a fictionalized (and slightly humorous) imagining of the events leading up to the robbery, centering on an unassuming security guard whose life has gotten away from him, who gets maneuvered into the operation by a criminal art lover. Joining us is criminal mastermind-- er, actor Paul Guilfoyle (L.A. CONFIDENTIAL).

"Splitsville" is a comedy film directed by Michael Angelo Covino, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Kyle Marvin. The pair previously worked together on "The Climb," but this time around, they also looped in stars Dakota Johnson (who also serves as the film's producer), Adria Arjona, Nicholas Braun, David Castañeda, O-T Fagbenle, Charlie Gillespie, and Simon Webster to tell the story of two couples whose friendship erupts into conflict when the husband of the divorcing couple sleeps with the wife of the open marriage couple. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to lots of laughs and positive reviews. Johnson, Arjona, Covino, and Marvin were all kind enough to spend time speaking with us about their work and experiences making the film, which you can listen to below. THIS WEEK'S SHOW: We get real and very unreal!

Billy 5000 is a teenager stuck in gig economy doldrums, delivering food and in need of fast, big money and with a plan for getting it. That doesn't begin to describe BOYS GO TO JUPITER, a quirky, absurdist animated journey that blends bright candy-colored visuals with themes of loneliness, connection and the strangeness of modern life. Writer/ director Julian Glander (ADULT SWIM) tells us all about his surreal, colorful and utterly unpredictable debut feature.

In THE PAPER BAG PLAN, a high functioning alcoholic and father facing terminal illness scrambles to find employment for his disabled son in hopes of helping him gain independence in his life ahead. We first discussed the film back in February of 2025, and it's now it's left the film festival circuit and getting a wider release, so, joining us for a fresh chat is its writer/ director, Anthony Lucero.

"Twinless" is an American indie black comedy psychological drama film written, directed, co-produced, and co-starring James Sweeney alongside Dylan O'Brien. It had its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Dramatic Competition, where it received critical acclaim for its direction, writing, and performances and won the Audience Award. Sweeney and O'Brien were kind enough to spend time speaking with us about their work and experiences making the film, which you can listen to below. "Bugonia" is an absurdist black comedy film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a screenplay by Will Tracy that adapts the 2003 South Korean film "Save the Green Planet!" by Jang Joon-hwan. The film follows two young men who kidnap a powerful CEO, suspecting that she is secretly an alien who wants to destroy Earth. The film stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. It had its world premiere in the main competition of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival and also screened at the Telluride Film Festival to positive reviews. Stone, Plemons, Lanthimos, and Tracy were all kind enough to spend time speaking with us about their work and experiences making the film, which you can listen to below. Tony Toscano is a nationally recognized movie critic and film historian who has been reviewing films for over 4 decades. Tony grew up in Southern California, just outside Los Angeles.

While attending Jr. High School, Toscano began writing a weekly movie review column for his school paper. Directly because of his weekly column, Tony was asked to write a film review column for the San Gabriel Valley Tribune and a music review column for “The record Collector's Journal.”

Always interested in television and film, it’s no surprise Tony's first job was a disc jockey at his hometown radio station and began to review films and interview celebrities as a regular feature of his radio show and “Talking Pictures” was born.

Moving from Los Angeles to Utah to co-host a morning radio show on Utah's KABE FM 107, his film reviews were heard once a week and became a staple of the popular morning program.

Toscano began taking live calls from listeners and discussing current movies.

In 1996 Tony made the jump from radio and newspapers to television as the film critic on CBS in Salt Lake City, and then to KJZZ TV where he hosted the popular "Movie Review Show" and then his own production, "Talking Pictures."

In 2002 Tony was honored with his first Emmy Award as “Best Discussion Program.” In 2007 Toscano received his 2nd Emmy for hosting Talking Pictures.

Taking his award winning program coast to coast, Toscano has been able to syndicate Talking Pictures to over 65 million households around the USA and in nearly 120 countries worldwide.

In May of 2008 “Talking Pictures” moved to ABC-4 and Utah’s CW-30.

Toscano is also the film reviewer and entertainment guru for ABC-4’s “Good Morning Utah" and “Midday."

Additionally, Tony is heard on a number of radio stations across the US, including I Heart Radio's  top- rated “Morning Zoo with Frankie and Jess” on 97.1 ZHT in Salt Lake City, where his reviews have been heard for nearly 2 decades.

His fellow reviewers regard Tony as "one of the country’s best celebrity interviewers." As his in-depth conversations with such notable stars as George Clooney, Harrison Ford, Angelina Jolie, Steven Spielberg, Jeff Goldblum, Gwyneth Paltrow and Denzel Washington show a different and more relaxed side of celebrities.

In 2006 Toscano co-hosted the acclaimed series “Hot Topics” for Atlanta’s ABC affiliate WSB TV.

Working with Utah students in apprenticeships and internship programs, Tony is instrumental in instructing qualified and deserving students in the art of television production.

Tony Toscano is member in good standing of the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA), a former board member of the Salt Lake City Film Center and the founder of the Utah Film Critics Society.

When not previewing, reviewing or interviewing Tony can be found somewhere in the mountains of Utah stream fishing or at his BBQ.
